The role...
We are currently recruiting a Senior Architect to join our Nottingham office.
The role will involve working as a Senior Architect playing a pivotal role in leading architectural design services across a diverse range of sectors. You’ll act as a key advisor to clients, manage multi-disciplinary teams, and ensure projects are delivered to the highest standards. From feasibility studies to site meetings, your expertise will guide every stage of the process.
Please Note: Due to the nature of the work undertaken successful applicants will need to have active UK SC Clearance or the ability to gain UK SC clearance
The selected candidate will…
- Lead architectural projects valued between £300k–£10m, including sensitive and secure defence sector schemes.
- Be comfortable designing within a set framework of client prescribed policy, process and regulations with an attention to detail.
- Interpret complex client briefs and develop strategic design responses aligned with sector-specific requirements.
- Act as Lead Consultant, coordinating with external consultants, contractors, and stakeholders.
- Produce site appraisals, feasibility studies, and planning applications, including those requiring security clearance or specialist compliance.
- Prepare detailed designs for competitive tender, manage tendering processes, and conduct post-tender analysis.
- Undertake value engineering and prepare tender reports and recommendations.
- Serve as Project Manager/Contract Administrator, overseeing site progress, technical compliance, and financial performance.
- Ensure adherence to UK Building Regulations and sector-specific standards (e.g. MOD, JSP).
- Liaise with sub-contractors, suppliers, and building control departments; resolve technical queries and ensure drawing accuracy.
- Provide leadership and mentoring to junior architects and technicians.
- Promote collaborative working across disciplines and contribute to sector forums and knowledge sharing.
- Support business development through client engagement and proposal input.
- Ensure profitability through effective resource planning, time recording, and fee invoicing
- Assist with projects being undertaken by other Ingleton Wood teams or offices as requested.
Essential skills, experience, and attributes…
- RIBA Part III qualified.
- Proven experience in the defence sector or other secure environments.
- Strong leadership, project management, and communication skills.
- Advanced proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD; BIM experience desirable.
- Excellent design, technical, and graphic communication skills.
- Thorough understanding of UK Building Regulations and NBS specification writing.
- Ability to work within QA standards and contribute to sustainability and growth objective
- Experience of a multi-discipline project environment, ideally across Defence, Maritime or a similar infrastructure setting (desirable not essential)
