The role

We are currently recruiting for an Associate Building Regulations Principal Designer to join our Building Regulations Principal Designer and Building Safety Act team in London to work across the whole Practice. The role will involve supporting the Director in managing the team, overseeing resource allocation, fee proposals, fee projections, and quality of service delivery. Supporting the existing team in their roles.

Please Note: This role may be subject to Disclosure and Barring Service Baseline Personnel Security Standard, Counter Terrorist Check, Security Check, or Developed Vetting clearance.

The selected candidate will:

  • Lead all IW BR PD jobs in terms of coordinating internal resource, undertaking work within the BRPD scope, managing fees, and reporting to the Director of Health and Safety.
  • Coordinate IW’s internal technical experts in architecture, building surveying, structures, and building services engineering in delivering Organisation Competence for the BR PD Role.
  • Collate and comment on all Design Risk compliance documents.
  • Produce, review, and update a BSA compliance Risk Register / Project Compliance Coordination Record.
  • Assist Client in preparing competence declaration.
  • Coordinate the review of the full design package by internal IW specialists in architecture/building surveying/services engineering/structures and highlight Building Regulations compliance.
  • Gather input and coordinate with IW internal technical specialists.
  • Assist in preparing the project Building Regulations conformance statement and other BR PD duties.
  • Assess necessary involvement during the Construction Phase by setting out visits requirements and information to be provided by the Principal Contractor requirements and any opening up or inspection regime.
  • Conduct periodic inspections of the works as defined in scope for each particular project.
  • Coordinate and gather any variations to the design which may impact Building Regulation compliance.
  • Input necessary documentation into building information on agreed platform with Client for the works.

  • Help develop the Building Regulations Principal Designer Service with the H&S Director.
  • Proactive self‐starter who is comfortable dealing with clients and project teams.
  • Proven leadership capability.
  • Ability to highlight concerns and work through solutions in a collaborative way.
