Job Summary: Working from the Redditch manufacturing plant, your role will require you to define, evaluate, prepare and maintain designs, drawings, schemes, engineering standards, materials and equipment of small to large-scale compressor projects related to mechanical, machinery and/or instruments. You will be responsible for delivery and maintenance of compressor BoM and drawings with the support and guidance from colleagues. You will also be instrumental in the development of new compressor products, defining test procedures and ensuring performance parameters are met. Additionally, you will increase your experience in the PED and documentation knowledge. You will also be expected to co-ordinate with production engineering as projects work their way through the production and testing process. The successful candidate will have an eye for detail, be a self-starter with a collaborative attitude and be able to manage their time effectively.
Responsibilities:
- Scope: Design compressor components systems/schemes to suit requirements. Complete relevant calculations to ensure the product meets the specification in all aspects, including regulatory compliance. Create test procedures and instructions for evaluation of designs. Interpret test data to ensure the product meets the specification in all aspects, including regulatory compliance. Compile and maintain 'Technical construction files.' Review customer purchase order amendments and/or additions and discuss with appropriate department. Produce all technical drawings required for manufacture. Review and advise on control logic. Liaise with customers and suppliers on specific projects including technical meetings, as required. Undertake any other duties as may be reasonably required within the scope of the role.
- Planning: Execute New Product design via the method detailing in company NPD procedure. Produce a full range of component detail and assembly drawings, specifications. Prepare and maintain bills of material. Respond to requirement for product or component modifications, utilizing the MOD note system. Monitor the progress of design or modification projects from initiation to conclusion.
- Cost Management: Monitor project costs and/or adjustments, paying attention to the original margins set and advising management when deviations occur. Must demonstrate experience in cost analysis and in-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes especially rotating heavy equipment, casting, machining and fabrication.
- Timelines: Develop project time estimates and product cost comparisons and selects materials, commercial parts and technical data.
- Production: Create test procedures for projects and oversee factory acceptance tests. May oversee production processes, suggesting changes in working methods or sequences in order to improve efficiencies of production timelines.
- Documentation: Coordinate and maintain all Engineering documents and design change information at the facility. Create functional descriptions/procedures for specific projects.
Basic Qualifications: Qualified to degree level or equivalent within an Engineering discipline.
Travel & Work Arrangements/Requirements: Fully site based. Occasional travel to suppliers or installations may be required. Strong organisation and problem-solving skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably one handling machining, fabrication, assembly, and compressed air systems. Project management skills: ability to interface with all levels of engineering, procurement, shipping, production, etc. Experienced and proven skill in producing detailed design drawings, or preferably models, using 3D Inventor and AutoCAD software. Proficient in appropriate computer software necessary to successfully navigate the job such as CAD, Microsoft Office, etc. SAP or similar ERP system experience would be an advantage.
