To lead Health, Safety, Environmental, and Facilities management across the manufacturing site at Transvac (Alfreton, Derbyshire), ensuring a safe, compliant, and efficient production environment. The role supports operational performance by minimising risk, maintaining critical infrastructure, and ensuring all plant, equipment, and facilities operate reliably and safely.

Responsibilities

  • Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)
    • Develop, implement, and enforce HSE policies tailored to manufacturing operations
    • Ensure compliance with UK legislation including Health & Safety at Work Act, PUWER, LOLER, COSHH
    • Conduct risk assessments, safe systems of work (SSOW), and method statements for production activities
    • Lead incident investigations (including near misses) using root cause analysis methods
    • Drive behavioural safety programmes and embed a strong shop‑floor safety culture
    • Ensure machine safety and guarding compliance
    • Deliver HSE training for operators, engineers, and contractors
  • Environmental & Sustainability
    • Monitor and control waste management, emissions, and environmental impact of manufacturing/site processes
    • Ensure compliance with environmental permits and regulations
    • Lead energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives across the site
    • Manage hazardous materials handling, storage, and disposal
  • Facilities & Operations Support
    • Oversee maintenance and reliability of site infrastructure, including utilities (power, water, compressed air, HVAC) and building fabric
    • Manage Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedules and minimise disruption to production
    • Work closely with Operations to minimise downtime and improve equipment reliability
    • Lead facilities‑related projects (site upgrades, layout changes, capital improvements)
    • Ensure compliance with fire safety regulations and emergency systems
    • Manage contractors on‑site, ensuring safe systems of work and compliance with site rules
    • Oversee facilities service providers (maintenance, cleaning, security, waste management)
    • Conduct contractor inductions and performance reviews
    • Act as a key member of the site leadership team supporting operational goals
    • Track and report KPIs including Lost Time Injuries (LTI), near‑miss reporting, equipment uptime/downtime, and maintenance compliance

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Significant experience in HSE and/or Facilities Management within a manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Strong knowledge of machinery safety, engineering controls, and production risks
  • Proven ability to manage audits, compliance inspections, and certifications
  • Strong understanding of Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles
  • Excellent organisational, leadership, and communication skills
  • Ability to influence shop‑floor behaviour and senior leadership
  • IOSH Managing Safely or Chartered Membership (desirable)
  • Experience with ISO standards: ISO 45001 (Health & Safety), ISO 14001 (Environmental)
  • Engineering or Facilities Management qualification (advantageous)
