Gardner Denver Transport provides equipment which efficiently transfers bulk material from road tankers and other vehicles. As global requirements advanced, we started developing into wider applications and we now produce equipment for alternative markets including specialised transport, on-board power systems for operating/powering other equipment, and bespoke electric compressor packages for e-mobility vehicles. Within our Bradford facility we design, machine, assembly and install our entire Bulk Powder and Liquid Compressor range for Road Transport Vehicles. Providing our customers with the whole product life cycle is number one for us and with our mobile service engineers we offer from concept design, manufacture, installation and aftermarket support.

We are seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Design Engineer to join our engineering team in Bradford. This is a hands-on engineering role offering the opportunity to take ownership of projects from initial concept through to manufacture, installation and production support. Working across a diverse range of transport and specialist vehicle applications, you will be responsible for designing innovative, practical solutions including fabricated structures, vehicle-mounted equipment, power transmission systems and complete vehicle integrations. This position offers genuine engineering variety, close collaboration with manufacturing and direct involvement in bringing designs into production.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical systems, fabricated structures and vehicle-mounted equipment for transport and specialist vehicle applications
  • Produce 3D CAD models, detailed manufacturing drawings and engineering documentation using Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD
  • Lead engineering projects from concept generation through design, testing, manufacture and production implementation
  • Develop practical solutions that integrate mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems
  • Liaise with Production, Purchasing, Service and external suppliers to ensure designs are manufacturable, cost-effective and reliable
  • Support prototype builds, testing, commissioning and validation activities
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives relating to product performance, quality, reliability and cost
  • Provide technical support for existing products, customer applications and bespoke engineering projects.

Basic Qualifications

  • HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
  • Proven mechanical design experience within automotive, commercial vehicle, off-highway, industrial machinery, power transmission or similar engineering sectors
  • Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawings, geometric tolerancing and manufacturing processes
  • Experience designing fabricated and welded assemblies
  • Knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic and basic DC electrical systems would be advantageous
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Right to work in the UK

Travel & Work Arrangements/Requirements

Predominantly site-based at our Bradford facility, supporting close collaboration with manufacturing and assembly operations. Occasional UK travel to customer and supplier locations will be required to support project development, technical reviews and product implementation. Flexible working arrangements are available, with a focus on project and business needs.
