Gardner Denver Transport provides equipment which efficiently transfers bulk material from road tankers and other vehicles. As global requirements advanced, we started developing into wider applications and we now produce equipment for alternative markets including specialised transport, on-board power systems for operating/powering other equipment, and bespoke electric compressor packages for e-mobility vehicles.
Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team at Gardner Denver’s Cross Lane facility. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, development, and installation of mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems for vehicle-mounted applications. This role requires strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams to deliver innovative and reliable solutions.
Responsibilities
- Create detailed mechanical designs for hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems used in vehicle installations.
- Develop 3D models and 2D drawings using CAD software (e.g., Inventor, AutoCAD).
- Ensure designs comply with relevant industry standards, safety regulations, and customer specifications.
- Collaborate with electrical and controls engineers to integrate mechanical systems seamlessly.
- Provide technical guidance during commissioning and troubleshoot any design-related issues.
- Identify opportunities for design optimization to improve performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
- Maintain accurate records of design changes and project progress.
Basic Qualifications
- HNC or Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Proven experience in designing hydraulic and pneumatic systems for vehicles or industrial applications along with sheet metal and fabrication work.
- Familiarity with electrical system integration is highly desirable.
- Experience in the automotive industry.
Travel & Work Arrangements/Requirements
Fully site based, flexible working, some UK travel.
