Skills and Experience

In this position, you will step into a key laboratory role at Ingenza as an Analytical Biochemist. You will focus on the execution and development of biochemical assays and standard analytical techniques to characterise enzymes and proteins. Working collaboratively within interdisciplinary teams, you will deliver high-quality data to meet client project milestones in a timely and accurate manner. The successful candidate will work closely with senior scientists and project leads, providing accurate technical updates and assisting in expanding our analytical assay capabilities.

Essential Qualifications

  • A PhD in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, Biochemistry or closely aligned subject. We will consider MSc level candidates with a minimum of 1 year in a dedicated industrial setting.

Essential Technical & Professional Skills

  • General Analytical Instrumentation: Practical experience operating standard analytical equipment (e.g., HPLC, GCMS, LCMS, UV/Vis spectrophotometers or plate readers) for quantitation, activity testing, and routine sample analysis.
  • Enzyme Activity Assay Development: Hands-on experience implementing, developing, and optimizing biochemical and enzymatic activity assays to monitor biocatalytic performance, kinetic parameters, and protein function.
  • Sample Preparation: Knowledge of sample preparation and extraction techniques required for effective biochemical analysis of proteins and biological samples.
  • Data Interpretation & QC: Excellent attention to detail with a critical eye to interpret, analyse and rigorously QC analytical and biochemical data.
  • Technical Writing & SOPs: Experience generating comprehensive scientific protocols, standard operating procedures (SOPs) and technical project reports within an industrial quality management framework.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Strong communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively across functional departments (e.g., molecular biology, fermentation, and downstream processing) and present clear findings to project teams.
  • Task Management: Ability to multitask seamlessly across parallel projects and meet tight timelines without compromising data integrity.

Desirable Technical & Professional Skills

  • Orthogonal Protein Characterisation: Good knowledge of recombinant protein analysis and purification methods (e.g., SDS-PAGE, Western Blot, or chromatography using the ÄKTA system).
  • Protein Purification: Familiarity with recombinant protein purification methods (e.g., chromatography using ÄKTA systems).
  • Host System Exposure: Familiarity with expression systems across mammalian (CHO, HEK293) or microbial hosts (coli, P. pastoris, B. subtilis).
  • Mentoring & Supervision: Experience guiding or mentoring junior technicians, placements, or students in standard laboratory practices and safety protocols.
  • Client & Project Exposure: Prior experience participating in technical updates or preparing data summary slides for commercial clients and external collaborators.
  • Continuous Improvement: A proactive mindset for identifying workflow efficiencies, streamlining routine assays, and maintaining laboratory standards.
  • Scientific Communication: Ability to contribute to technical proposals, scientific case studies, or internal knowledge-sharing seminars.
