The Legal Department provides tailored and sustainable legal solutions by being a partner in business while mitigating potential legal and reputational risks for ING Bank. The Legal Department in London consists of around 14 Lawyers providing legal support principally to the Financial Markets and Wholesale Lending businesses of ING in London.
Candidate Profile
- Qualification/Education: Law degree or equivalent with conversion or BPTC
- Experience/Knowledge: 8 years post-qualification experience working for a magic circle/equivalent law firm or in-house for a leading international wholesale bank. Previous experience in advising in all or most of the areas referred to below.
- Personal Competencies: Confident and articulate, builds client relationships, communicates information clearly, takes responsibility for own workload.
Main Duties and Responsibilities of Role:
- Maintain a comprehensive and current knowledge of relevant legal and regulatory issues, including ISDA and other market standard documentation, as well as MiFID, EMIR and their UK equivalents.
- Represent ING’s interests on regulatory and industry bodies and working groups and report to the management, the business and other internal clients on potential regulatory developments and changes, and advise ING on the implications that such developments and changes may have for its business, particularly in the area of financial markets.
- Represent the interests of ING’s business in London on internal working groups.
- Provide general legal and associated advice and support for the Financial Markets and Corporate Finance businesses of ING, principally in London but also elsewhere in Europe and globally.
- Provide general legal and associated advice and support, as required, to other businesses and support functions within ING, principally in the UK but also in other locations, including UK Procurement, Innovation, IT and Operational support to the FM business.
- Review, draft and negotiate term sheets and all documentation required for execution of transactions.
- Advise on the interpretation of existing and proposed agreements.
- Deal with general legal queries in relation to FM products and trading activities.
- Liaise with the Financial Markets Legal team globally to ensure seamless provision of advice across boundaries and time zones.
- Liaise as necessary with external counsel.
- Provide legal advice in connection with a broad range of products linked to a diverse trading strategy, such as event driven trades, margin financing, relative value transactions and arbitrage opportunities.
