We are looking for a Technical Trainer and Assessor to join our dedicated team at SMT GB. In this role, you will develop and deliver high‑quality training programs for apprentices and engineers, ensuring they possess the skills and knowledge required to confidently work with our heavy construction equipment. You will also assess their competence and provide constructive feedback to support their professional growth.
What You Will Be Doing
- Designing and delivering training programs tailored to various competence levels in plant maintenance and repairs.
- Conducting assessments and evaluations of trainees to ensure compliance with industry standards.
- Creating training materials and resources, including presentations, manuals, and practical exercises.
- Providing on‑the‑job training and mentoring to technicians in the workshop.
- Staying current with industry developments and innovations to enhance training content.
- Collaborating with management to identify training needs and areas for improvement within the team.
- Monitoring and assessing training effectiveness and implementing necessary adjustments.
- Maintaining training records and documentation in line with company policies.
- Working with our apprenticeship provider to deliver and assess our apprentices.
Requirements
- A formal engineering qualification in Plant Maintenance, Agricultural/HGV mechanics or a related discipline.
- Proven experience in a training or assessing role, particularly within the heavy construction or automotive industry.
- Strong technical expertise in servicing and repairing diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage and motivate learners.
- Experience in developing training materials and conducting assessments.
- Passion for teaching and helping others grow in their careers.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple training sessions.
- Competent using digital tools and technology for training purposes.
- Current knowledge of industry standards and legislation related to training and assessment.
- Ability to travel to our different sites across the UK.
- Full UK driving licence.
