Contract: Apprenticeship | Full Time | 40 hours per week

The CAD Technician Apprentice will be responsible for creating, updating, and completing Multi Utility drawings accurately and within agreed timescales, based on weekly priority schedules. The role supports the delivery of high-quality utility design and record documentation by ensuring all drawing updates are completed in accordance with company processes, procedures, industry standards, and client requirements. The post holder will work closely with internal teams and stakeholders to ensure developer expectations, project deadlines, and compliance requirements are consistently achieved while developing technical CAD skills through a structured apprenticeship programme.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Completing compliant Multi Utility as laid from documents received from field staff within a timely manner
  • Responding to email queries and problems applicable to own competency level and escalating where necessary to relevant departmental manager
  • Liaising with colleagues internally and external companies in a professional manner
  • Ensuring all paperwork conforms with the regulatory bodies
  • Reporting to the compliance manager the number of rejected packs and raising a plan of action
  • Helping and assisting the records team with as laid queries and as laid rejections
  • Reviewing colleagues’ work so that constructive feedback can be provided
  • Chasing internal staff for updates on project progression
  • Undertaking electronic filing regularly to ensure that all correspondence is available and can be found
  • To take responsibility for your own health, safety, and wellbeing, and undertake health and safety duties and responsibilities for your role
  • To treat all employees, customers and stakeholders with dignity and respect
  • To carry out any other reasonable and necessary duties within the remit of the role

Communication & Team Working

  • Liaise with internal teams and external stakeholders in a professional manner
  • Provide regular updates to the Estimating Team Leader / Manager on progress against priorities
  • Maintain organised electronic records to ensure documentation is accessible

General

  • Continuously develop skills and knowledge as part of the apprenticeship programme
  • Undertake additional duties as required in line with the needs of the business

  • Interest in utilities, construction, or engineering sectors (desirable)
  • Awareness of tendering processes or technical environments (desirable)
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD (beneficial but not essential)

Education / Qualifications

  • GCSEs (or equivalent), including Maths and English
  • Relevant technical or utility-related qualifications (desirable but not essential)
