We are seeking a talented Senior Security Design Engineer to join our team. IDS is an independent consultancy specialising in ICT and Security technical design. This role offers the opportunity to work on challenging projects for blue chip global clients, developing market-leading security infrastructure solutions for data centers, offices and production environments. Reporting to the Associate Director - Security Design, you will contribute to technical design excellence while developing your skills in security engineering and project delivery.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- The Senior Security Design Engineer will work as part of project teams on large scale projects, contributing technical expertise under the guidance of the Associate Director and senior team members, with responsibility for delivering high-quality technical outputs and supporting client engagement.
Project Delivery
- Work as a key member of project teams alongside engineers, clients and suppliers to ensure that all projects are delivered to company standards, on-time and within budget.
- Undertake client-facing technical work in the development, design and coordination of Security infrastructure.
- Attend and contribute to technical meetings with customers, professional teams and contractors' teams.
- Collaborate with the Associate Director on project progress and provide input to client advisory processes.
Technical Security Design
- Deliver client security requirements in line with client briefs and project requirements, from consultancy advice (risk management and strategy) to engineering designs (physical and electronic security).
- Develop and specify security infrastructure designs within a variety of environments under supervision.
- Carry out engineering calculations to ensure drawings meet required robust industry and legal standards.
- Support validation and checking of designs and specifications.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends and emerging technologies related to security engineering.
Construction Administration
- Survey, test, and report on existing installations.
- Support activities to ensure that manufacturing, construction, installation, and operational testing conform to functional specifications and customer requirements.
Professional Development
- Actively engage in personal development and learning to enhance technical and professional skills.
- Support and mentor junior team members as appropriate.
- Act in an ethical manner and follow the principles of the Ethics Charter and Ethics in Practice Guidelines.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Experience contributing to security design projects for commercial clients, with exposure to data center environments desirable.
- Demonstrable ability to work effectively within technical project teams in a security environment.
- Practical experience of the design of security infrastructure and its installation.
- Solid understanding of security systems and physical infrastructure design.

- Ability to communicate design intent and technical arguments effectively. Clear written and oral communication skills. You must be comfortable conversing on the telephone, via email and face-to-face as well as be able to write concise technical reports.
Knowledge: understanding of
- Key Health and Safety issues and legislation.
- BS-EN standards.
- Security design standards and best practices.

- Ability to use IT based calculation, spreadsheet software, productivity tools.
- Suitable permanent 'home office' where you can effectively work and communicate on video calls without interruption.
DESIRABLE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Certification in Lenel, C-Cure, ProWatch or other Access Control Systems desired.
- Relevant security design industry qualifications or working towards them.
- Revit/CAD experience.
- Experience working on international projects.
