Our team of experienced engineers provide technical designs to global enterprise clients building data centers, office spaces and production environments to deliver market-leading ICT infrastructure engineering solutions.
The Design Engineer (Structured Cabling) will be working under a Principal Engineer on medium to large scale projects, alongside industry experts. Overseas travel is required with this role.
Role & Responsibilities
- Undertakes a client facing role in the development, design and coordination of telecoms infrastructure.
- Develop and specify ICT infrastructure and structured cabling designs within a variety of building environments.
- Surveys tests and reports on existing installations.
- Specifies activities to ensure that manufacturing, construction, installation, and operational testing conform to functional specifications and customer requirements.
- Day to day decision making on project progress and direct liaison with and provides advice to client.
- Represents company at technical meetings with customers, professional teams and contractors’ teams.
- Carries out engineering calculations to ensure drawings meet required robust industry and legal standards.
- Responsible for technical content and accuracy of graduates engineers output.
- Validation and checking of designs and specifications.
- Acts in an ethical manner and follows the principles of the Ethics Charter and Ethics in Practice Guidelines.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Practical experience of the design of ICT infrastructure and structured cabling systems and their installations.
- Experience of structured cabling systems and physical infrastructure design.
- Knowledge of key Health and Safety issues and legislation.
- Ability to use IT based calculation and spreadsheet software.
- Good understanding of BS-EN standards.
- Ability to prioritise own workload and work to deadlines and to support/supervise graduate consultants where applicable.
- Able to clearly communicate design intent or other technical arguments as part of client facing role.
- Clear (written as well as oral) communication skills.
- Competent in specification design/drawing for various building types.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Good general IT skills to include use of a range of MS applications Word/Excel/Outlook/Teams.
- Attention to detail and enjoy problem solving technical and non-technical issues.
- Team player but able to work on own initiative, prioritising work and adhering to deadlines.
- Reliable, self-motivated and flexible.
- Prepared to work hard and commit to learning goals, demonstrating both resilience and perseverance.
- Must have a suitable permanent ‘home office’ space from which they can work and communicate effectively including participation in visual and audio communications without interruption.
Desirable Skills and Experience
- RCDD / CDCDP qualifications, CAD experience, knowledge of wireless networks, telephony, in-building cellular enhancement, Security, Networks, AV, EPMS, BAS smart building technologies as it applies to overall ICT design.
