Our team of experienced engineers deliver technical designs for data centres, corporate campuses, critical infrastructure and production environments to the highest industry standards.
Role & Responsibilities
- The BIM/CAD Technician will work as part of a specialist design team on medium to large-scale security and telecommunications projects including data centres, corporate campuses and critical infrastructure facilities.
- Attendance at technical design meetings with clients, contractors and professional design teams.
- Production of detailed design drawings and BIM models for security and telecommunications systems including floor plans, riser diagrams, schematic layouts, equipment schedules and cable schedules using AutoCAD and Revit.
- Coordination and clash detection of security and telecoms designs against other building services disciplines within BIM environments.
- Supporting senior designers in translating security concepts, risk assessments and system architectures into detailed construction-ready drawings and models.
- Producing design deliverables for physical security systems (access control, CCTV/VMS, intruder detection, PIDS, security lighting) and structured cabling/telecommunications infrastructure across all RIBA/design stages.
- Maintaining drawing registers, managing revision control and producing as-built documentation.
- Supporting construction administration activities including RFI responses and submittal reviews where required.
- Acts in an Ethical manner and follows the principles of the Ethics Charter and Ethics in Practice Guidelines.
Skills & Experience
- Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit is essential. Candidates must demonstrate strong BIM/CAD skills with experience producing detailed design drawings and 3D models to a high standard.
- Previous BIM/CAD experience on security and/or telecommunications infrastructure projects is required. This should include producing drawings for systems such as access control, CCTV/VMS, intruder detection, structured cabling and/or IT physical infrastructure.
- Experience working on projects within data centres, corporate campuses, critical infrastructure or large-scale commercial environments.
- Understanding of associated systems and disciplines such as hostile vehicle mitigation (HVM), security lighting, PSIM, wireless networks, in-building cellular, AV and integration with BMS/smart building technologies is beneficial.
- Ability to use IT based calculation and spreadsheet software.
- Good general IT skills to include use of a range of MS applications Word/Excel/Outlook/Teams.
- Working knowledge of relevant security and telecommunications standards (e.g. CPNI, LPS 1175, BS EN 62676, IEC 60839, EN 50173, TIA-568) is an advantage.
- Ability to prioritise own workload and work independently to achieve measured goals and achieve deadlines.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills. You must be confident and feel comfortable conversing on the telephone, via email and face-to-face as well as to be able to write concise reports.
- It is imperative that you can demonstrate that you have a good attention to detail to include taking a proactive approach to problem solving to include identifying errors and opportunities for improvements.
- You must be a team player but, it is important that you can work on your own initiative to include prioritising work and adhering to deadlines.
- You will be reliable, self-motivated and flexible. Prepared to work hard and commit to learning goals, demonstrating both resilience and perseverance.
- As the role is predominantly home based the candidate must have a suitable permanent ‘home office’ space from which they can work and communicate effectively including participation in visual and audio communications without interruption.
