An established and growing renewable energy investment platform is looking to appoint an Investment Associate to support the expansion and optimisation of its UK portfolio.

The role will provide exposure across the full investment lifecycle, including new development opportunities, acquisitions, project financing, portfolio valuation and commercial optimisation.

The successful candidate will work across a range of renewable and clean energy technologies, including solar, battery storage, wind and other emerging technologies.

A key element of the position will be developing and maintaining sophisticated financial models and using detailed analysis to inform investment decisions, financing strategies and commercial negotiations.

The role will involve regular interaction with senior management, investors, lenders, professional advisers and teams across development, finance, legal, construction and asset management.

Salary £60k - £85k plus bonus

Key Responsibilities

  • Build, maintain and enhance detailed financial models for development projects, acquisitions and portfolio investments.
  • Develop project finance, valuation and investment models covering debt sizing, refinancing, returns, capital allocation and portfolio value.
  • Assess new investment opportunities across renewable and clean energy technologies, from early-stage development through to construction.
  • Analyse projects against wider market, regulatory and macroeconomic conditions to assess commercial viability and investment potential.
  • Support and, where appropriate, lead transactions including acquisitions, disposals, joint ventures and strategic partnerships.
  • Prepare transaction materials, including non-binding and best-and-final offers.
  • Coordinate financial, commercial and technical due diligence with internal stakeholders and external advisers.
  • Prepare high-quality investment papers and presentations for senior management and investment committees.
  • Support the negotiation and review of key commercial and project agreements, including power offtake, route-to-market, optimisation, construction, operations and financing arrangements.
  • Support project finance, debt raising and refinancing processes, acting as a key point of contact for lenders and taking ownership of financial model execution.
  • Assess different revenue and commercial strategies, including power purchase arrangements, route-to-market structures, private-wire opportunities and optimisation strategies.
  • Monitor relevant energy market developments, regulation, pricing trends and competitor activity.
  • Present financial analysis, investment recommendations and commercial conclusions to senior stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain portfolio funding forecasts to support capital planning and investment deployment.
  • Take ownership of allocated workstreams and ensure transactions and projects are progressed through to completion.
  • Work closely with Finance, Legal, Development, Construction and Asset Management teams throughout the project lifecycle, from development through to operations and optimisation.

Experience & Skills

  • Relevant experience within renewable energy, infrastructure, power, project finance, investment management, investment banking or corporate finance.
  • Experience or a strong understanding of renewable energy technologies is advantageous.
  • Strong financial modelling skills with advanced Excel capability. VBA experience would be beneficial.
  • Demonstrable experience developing project finance, valuation or investment models and translating financial analysis into commercially relevant recommendations.
  • Good understanding of project finance structures, debt documentation, lender requirements and financing processes.
  • Strong knowledge of investment appraisal, project returns, valuation methodologies and financial risk assessment.
  • Experience assessing investment opportunities and understanding project economics.
  • Commercially minded, proactive and solutions-focused, with the confidence to challenge assumptions and make informed recommendations.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively with senior management, lenders, advisers, investors and other external counterparties.
  • Ability to manage multiple transactions, projects and analytical workstreams simultaneously while maintaining a high level of attention to detail.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills with the ability to work to demanding deadlines.
  • Degree or HND qualification in Finance, Economics, Business, Engineering, Mathematics or a related discipline.
  • CFA, ACA, ACCA or equivalent professional qualification would be advantageous.
  • Typically 1–5 years' relevant experiencein renewable energy, infrastructure, project finance, investment banking, corporate finance or a related field, with exposure to financial modelling, investment analysis, transaction execution and investment decision-making.
