Role Overview: The Infrastructure Architect will be responsible for designing, optimizing, and managing enterprise IT infrastructure across Compute (AIX/Linux, Windows/VMware), Storage, and Network domains, with a strong focus on capacity planning, performance engineering, and operational resilience. The role will support large-scale enterprise environments and ensure high availability, scalability, and performance optimization across all infrastructure layers.
Key Responsibilities
- Infrastructure Architecture & Design
- Define and maintain end-to-end infrastructure architecture across: Compute (IBM AIX, Linux, Windows), Virtualization (VMware – ESXi, vCenter), Storage (SAN/NAS, backup platforms), Network (LAN/WAN, DC networking).
- Provide architectural solutions for scalable, resilient, and secure infrastructure platforms.
- Ensure alignment with enterprise standards, CMDB, and configuration management practices.
- Capacity Planning & Management
- Perform capacity forecasting for compute, storage, and network resources.
- Analyze trends for CPU, memory, storage, IO, and network utilization.
- Recommend and implement capacity optimization strategies.
- Collaborate with application, DB, and infra teams for growth planning.
- Performance Engineering & Optimization
- Lead performance analysis and tuning across AIX/Linux/Windows and VMware environments.
- Identify bottlenecks across: CPU, memory, disk IO, network throughput.
- Optimize workloads using tools/technologies (e.g., monitoring, alerting platforms as referenced in infra monitoring scope).
- Drive proactive performance improvement initiatives.
- Compute Platform Leadership (AIX / Windows / VMware)
- Oversee: AIX (POWER, LPAR, PowerVC environments), Windows Server & Active Directory, VMware infrastructure lifecycle (ESXi, vCenter, clusters).
- Support activities including: OS monitoring, patching, lifecycle management, VM provisioning, decommissioning, and performance tuning.
- Storage & Backup Architecture
- Design and manage SAN/NAS storage environments.
- Optimize storage performance (IOPS, throughput, latency).
- Lead backup/recovery strategy and disaster recovery alignment.
- Work with tools like enterprise backup (e.g., Spectrum Protect, etc. based on environment patterns).
- Network Architecture & Integration
- Define and review: Data center networking, routing/switching, connectivity between compute, storage, and application layers.
- Work closely with network architects for performance troubleshooting.
- Ensure network supports infrastructure scalability and HA needs.
- Monitoring, Automation & Reliability
- Implement and enhance monitoring solutions for infra health, alerts & performance.
- Drive automation for: Provisioning, Capacity reporting, Performance tuning.
- Improve observability across infra stack.
- Incident, Problem & Change Management
- Lead resolution of complex L2/L3 infrastructure issues.
- Drive root cause analysis for recurring performance issues.
- Work within ITIL processes (Incident, Problem, Change).
- Disaster Recovery & High Availability
- Design DR/HA solutions for critical infrastructure.
- Ensure infrastructure readiness for failover scenarios.
- Periodically validate DR drills.

- Compute: IBM AIX (LPAR, Power systems, PowerVC), Linux (RHEL), Windows Server & AD.
- Virtualization: VMware (vSphere, ESXi, vCenter, HA, DRS).
