We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Technology Architect to lead the architecture, design, and delivery of a modern, scalable, and secure data and AI ecosystem for large utility and energy enterprises. This is a multi-year transformation role focused on enabling data-driven operations, advanced analytics, and AI-led decision support across asset-intensive and regulated environments. The role combines hands-on architectural leadership for complex programmes with broader practice responsibilities, including solutioning during pre-sales, thought leadership in data and AI, and mentoring senior architects across a global delivery organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end architecture and delivery of strategic data and AI platform programmes, from early solution shaping through implementation.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders, enterprise architects, delivery leaders, and partners to define and execute the enterprise data and AI strategy.
- Architect and guide implementation using the Databricks Data Intelligence Platform, covering lakehouse architecture, data engineering, governance, machine learning, and AI-enabled analytics.
- Define reference architectures, domain data models, and integration patterns across utility domains such as grid operations, asset management, customer operations, market operations, and smart metering.
- Lead AI architecture and AI engineering for utility use cases such as predictive maintenance, outage prediction, demand forecasting, anomaly detection, and operational decision support, while embedding responsible AI and governance.
- Establish and govern data management, quality, security, and compliance frameworks aligned with utility regulatory, operational resilience, and privacy requirements.
- Lead solutioning and architecture during pre-sales, including RFP responses, target and transition architectures, transformation roadmaps, and client workshops.
- Provide hands-on architectural leadership within a global delivery model, ensuring consistency, quality, and alignment across geographically distributed teams.
- Mentor and develop senior architects and technical leaders, contributing to design authority and architectural best practice.
Required Qualifications
- 15+ years’ experience in data, analytics, and platform architecture, delivering large scale enterprise transformations.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with Databricks or similar modern cloud data platform technologies, including lakehouse architecture, Delta Lake, and governed enterprise data platforms.
- Strong experience in AI architecture and AI engineering, including end-to-end AI/ML solution design covering data pipelines, feature engineering, model lifecycle, deployment, and MLOps.
- Experience delivering production-grade AI solutions in regulated or complex environments, with awareness of responsible AI, governance, and explainability.
- Deep knowledge of modern data and AI architectures, including lakehouse, medallion design, federated governance, cloud-native integration, and AI-enabled analytics patterns.
- Proven experience leading or supporting architecture and solution design during pre-sales and large bids.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence senior technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and develop globally distributed, cross-functional teams.
Preferred Experience
- Experience in Utilities or Energy data transformation, including one or more of grid operations, asset performance management, smart meter analytics, outage management, renewable integration, or customer operations.
- Familiarity with utility industry data standards, interoperability patterns, and enterprise governance frameworks.
- Experience operating in multi-vendor and multi-cloud environments.
