Cyber Security Engineer

We’re looking for a Cyber Security Engineer for our client to join an expanding IT team, providing guidance and hands‑on support to protect against cyber threats. This role involves working on IT projects and programmes, taking a consultative and practical approach to designing, implementing, and maintaining security controls across hybrid and on‑premises environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain and optimise operational security processes.
• Advise on implementing and managing physical, procedural, and technical security measures.
• Define and enforce secure configuration baselines aligned with industry frameworks (e.g., CIS Benchmarks, Microsoft Security Baselines).
• Conduct threat modelling and risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities.
• Manage Software Bills of Materials (SBOMs).
• Integrate security monitoring, logging, and alerting capabilities.
• Create and review technical documentation, including security architecture designs and risk mitigation plans.
• Perform security validation and configuration assessments.
• Analyse threat intelligence and design vulnerability research activities.
• Mentor other IT engineers as needed.

What We’re Looking For

• Experience as a senior or independent Cyber Security or IT Infrastructure Security specialist.
• Strong technical knowledge of Microsoft‑based environments (on‑prem and cloud).
• Understanding of network security principles, IAM, MFA, RBAC, and conditional access.
• Familiarity with compliance frameworks (e.g., NIST, CIS Controls, ISO 27001, Cyber Essentials Plus).
• Experience with SIEM, threat detection platforms, and vulnerability management tools.
• Knowledge of data classification, encryption, and secure storage principles.
• Understanding of security automation concepts and scripting for task automation.
