About the role: As a UX/UI Designer at Informed Solutions, you will play a pivotal role in leading and delivering user-centred designs that make the world a healthier, safer, and more sustainable place. Your expertise will drive the design of complex, user-centred solutions across the public sector. As a UX/UI Designer, you will have experience making strategic design decisions (ideally within a public sector environment, using GDS principles) and be able to clearly demonstrate how you have led and coached others. Your role will involve driving the creation of sustainable, scalable, and accessible design practices that align with client needs, while continuously raising the bar for design excellence.

Requirements:

  • Lead the design of innovative, user-centred solutions across private and public sector projects, keeping users at the heart of the process.

  • Advocate for user needs with internal teams, clients, and wider stakeholders, influencing decision-making.
  • Work across all phases of the delivery lifecycle (discovery to live), adapting methods to each project phase.
  • Partner with technical consultants and developers to embed user-centred practices while considering technical constraints.
  • Design accessible digital experiences, from low-fidelity wireframes to high-fidelity UI designs, using and evolving our design system.
  • Create reusable UI assets and common design patterns to drive consistency and efficiency.
  • Prototype using tools such as Figma, InVision, and Sketch, and build rich interactive prototypes with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Nunjucks (GDS prototyping toolkit).
  • Mentor and coach early career colleagues, strengthening our UCD community and supporting future growth.
  • Contribute to evolving Informed's UX capabilities by refining methodologies and driving quality improvements.

Essential Skills:

  • Proven experience delivering complex, user-centred designs, ideally within the public sector, using GDS principles.
  • Ability to work across the full delivery lifecycle (discovery to live), adapting methods to each stage.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience guiding and mentoring teams, fostering a culture of collaboration and best practice.
  • Experience working with user researchers, service designers, content designers, and technical consultants.
  • Proven ability to work closely with software engineers and developers, aligning design with technical constraints and feasibility.
  • Skilled in championing user needs with clients, internal teams, and stakeholders.
  • Strong grasp of accessibility standards and creating reusable UI components.
  • Proficient in Figma, InVision, and Sketch, with the ability to build interactive prototypes using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Nunjucks (GDS prototyping toolkit).
  • Experience working in Agile environments, delivering iterative, user-centred solutions.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience applying service design principles to create seamless end-to-end user experiences.
  • Experience working with clients in a consultancy setting with a technology focus.
