As a UX Researcher, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping user-centred services that deliver real impact across the public sector. You’ll bring deep expertise in research methodologies and user-centred design, helping teams and clients alike to understand user needs, test ideas, and deliver accessible and usable services.

This role will see you influencing project teams, engaging with senior stakeholders, and mentoring early-career colleagues, all while driving forward Informed’s user-centred design capability.

This is a varied and rewarding role, where you’ll be:

  • Applying user-centred design principles at every stage of delivery, ensuring iterative, evidence-led development.
  • Planning, conducting, moderating, and analysing user testing sessions, rapidly turning insights into actionable design recommendations.
  • Evaluating and monitoring client experiences across multiple touchpoints and platforms, anticipating and addressing usability issues.
  • Drawing on a wide range of UX research methods – from remote testing and heuristic evaluation to competitor analysis, surveys, and information architecture activities.
  • Collaborating with product owners, designers, developers, and analysts to translate research findings into design solutions.
  • Coordinating all aspects of user testing, including recruitment, logistics, and managing external suppliers.

Essential Skills and Experience

We’re looking for someone with:

  • Demonstrable experience moderating one-to-one usability sessions, with training in interviewing techniques being highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of UCD principles and best practices.
  • Practical experience applying a variety of qualitative and quantitative UX research methods, with clear awareness of their strengths and limitations.
  • Experience using commercial UX research tools.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in fast-paced, agile environments.
  • Excellent planning, organisation, and time management skills.

Desirable Skills

  • A track record of delivering digital services aligned to recognised standards and design manuals (e.g. GDS).
  • Experience working in a consultancy environment, ideally delivering government services.
  • Strong awareness of accessibility standards and how to design and test services that are inclusive for all users.
  • Experience in another area of user-centred design, such as UX/UI design, business analysis, or service design.
