Informed Engineering is an agile and growing SME consultancy delivering high-quality engineering design, digital engineering and project support services across the built environment. We combine technical excellence with a practical, client-focused approach to provide innovative and reliable solutions across highways, drainage, infrastructure and BIM-enabled projects. Our collaborative culture empowers talented engineers to make a real impact, working closely with clients to solve complex challenges, drive digital transformation and deliver projects efficiently from concept through to completion.

We are seeking a confident challenger to lead Information Management functions on major infrastructure projects. This person must be able to identify opportunities to create efficiencies and communicate this to non-technical team members and Senior Leadership – Jargon Free!

BIM is not for everyone; it is a convincing exercise that will require the individual to provide a value proposition to those who are learning about the reasons for structured Information Management in a non-patronising way that has delivery outcomes at the forefront of the decisions. The person must be able to confidently explain programme, cost and potential efficiencies or risk to Senior Leadership Teams, and then provide the technical solution detail, strategy for delivery and implementation plan to execute.

We are precision, detail-oriented specialists. Not generalists. We expect clarity in our approach and not buzzword bingo. If it doesn't provide value to our clients, we should be challenging requirements and providing ROI for alternatives.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of BIM and information management standards, processes, and workflows.
  • Drive excellence and challenge the norms to extract maximum value from interpretation of ISO 19650.
  • Engage in work winning activities including speaking at conferences and workshops, major industry events and promote the value of engaging with Informed Engineering to deliver on new projects, or expand upon scope within existing contracts.
  • Author and update key documentation, including BIM Execution Plan (BEP) / Information Production Plans, supporting procedures and guidance documents (with training), Exchange Information Requirements (EIR) for our Clients overseeing major projects.
  • Active engagement and building of close relationships with Engineering and Design Managers and Construction Teams to ensure any processes embedded are adding value and not detracting from delivery activities.
  • Manage and coordinate project information across multiple stakeholders and disciplines.
  • Oversee Common Data Environment (CDE) processes and information exchanges.
  • Audit and review project information to ensure quality, accuracy, and compliance.
  • Contribute to strategic development of the organisation's Engineering delivery capability, with Information Management at its core.
  • Strategise clash detection and interface coordination meetings, and identify owners for resolution led by the BIM Manager.
  • Identify commercial risk and opportunity.
  • Ability to mediate is an essential part of this role. BIM is not always wanted and it is the IM's responsibility to produce a value proposition for the team, whether that be quality focused, financial, health and safety or other. Identify, champion and promote this within your projects, with our clients and within our team.
  • Educate our team on how to extract value from the Information Management process.
  • Ensure all aspects of a project embed proper Information Management processes, and not just limit to drawing and model production (include construction certification, survey, validation, etc.).
  • Management of major projects or schemes.
Required Skills and Experience:
  • Excellent professional communication skills, with the ability to influence, negotiate and mediate.
  • Training and guidance to large scale teams.
  • Presentation skills and confidence to engage with large and unfamiliar audiences.
  • Learning new software, coding languages or seeing the ability to direct a team to engage in these activities to advance a project.
  • Experience on major infrastructure projects is essential.
  • Understanding of working to an NEC contract and producing commercial response as appropriate.
  • Forecasting and reporting on programme and cost.
  • Project Management experience within the Information Management function for multi-million pound projects.
