About the role

We are looking for an accomplished and forward-thinking Events Director to oversee our events portfolio, which includes our flagship annual world Congress and over 35 smaller events annually, held globally. The role demands a strategic leader with proven expertise in event management, who can deliver outstanding experiences for our Member organisations. Key responsibilities include driving the planning, execution and ongoing enhancement of large-scale events and related programmes. The position combines strategic oversight with hands-on project delivery, requiring close collaboration with internal teams, external partners and sponsors to ensure operational excellence, strong stakeholder engagement and exceptional Member value.

Key Responsibilities include

  • Leadership & Team Management
    • Lead a team of employees and contractors, including two Senior Event Managers reporting directly to you.
    • Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture that drives excellence in event delivery.
    • Design and execute impactful, informative and engaging annual congresses and chapter meetings tailored to the needs of ISF Member organisations.
    • Ensure all events align with organisational objectives and deliver measurable value.
  • Stakeholder Engagement
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
    • Understand ISF Member requirements and translate them into compelling event experiences.
  • Operational Oversight
    • Manage budgets, timelines and resources effectively to ensure flawless execution.
    • Oversee supplier selection, contract negotiation and management.
    • Ensure compliance with all legal standards and regulations related to events.

About You

You are a strategic leader with a proven track record in managing multi-disciplinary teams and delivering high-profile events. Skilled in stakeholder engagement and communication, you excel at building strong relationships and translating delegate needs into exceptional event experiences. Your expertise spans end-to-end event management, from planning and budgeting to technical delivery and post-event analysis. Commercially astute and detail-oriented, you combine strategic vision with hands-on execution, ensuring operational excellence and measurable value. Experience in information security or cybersecurity is desirable, along with familiarity with event technology and hybrid solutions.

  • Proven ability to deliver large-scale, in-person events for 800+ delegates
  • Expertise in managing and executing online and hybrid events to a high standard
  • Advanced problem-solving capabilities to address complex challenges
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills
  • Demonstrated innovation and creativity in event design and delivery
  • Ability to foster trust-based relationships through proactive, respectful and collaborative behaviours
  • Proven ability to manage end-to-end projects and programmes, including detailed planning and financial oversight
  • Expertise in risk management and mitigation strategies
  • In-depth knowledge of contract administration and regulatory compliance
  • Skilled in sponsor relationship management, including exhibition planning and engagement strategies
  • Ability to conduct post-event analysis and reporting, driving continuous improvement through feedback and innovation
  • Expertise in speaker acquisition, including researching and securing keynote speakers and managing call-for-speakers programmes
  • Proven ability to design and deliver engaging, high-quality event programmes tailored to audience needs
  • Skilled in managing supplier relationships, including identifying requirements, selecting vendors, negotiating contracts and overseeing all logistical elements

Technical & Digital Delivery

  • Ability to define and manage production requirements, including AV, livestream, IT and digital content for seamless event delivery
  • Expertise in managing and implementing event registration systems, mobile apps and associated software solutions for efficient event management

Marketing & Member Engagement

  • Ability to develop and implement marketing and communications strategies and marketing collateral

Desirable requirements and skills

  • Familiarity with event technology platforms and hybrid event solutions
  • Background in information security or cyber security
  • Degree in Event Management, Business, Marketing, or related field
