Job Overview

You will serve as a Commissioning Editor, championing high‑impact research in selected Physical Sciences journals. In this role you shape content strategy, build relationships with editors and authors, and drive journal growth by commissioning top‑quality articles.

Key Accountabilities

• Commission high‑quality articles to assigned journals in accordance with strategy and targets set by the Director of Commissioning.
• Develop and review detailed commissioning plans to meet journal development needs.
• Analyse academic fields, identify growth opportunities and emerging trends, and suggest new article types.
• Monitor research developments and market dynamics to ensure content meets quality standards and development goals.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with Editors‑in‑Chief, Editorial Board members, research communities and internal teams.
• Provide regular progress updates through meetings and reports.
• Support and encourage Editors and Editorial Boards in their commissioning activities.
• Act as the key contact for authors, providing feedback and support throughout the publication journey.
• Establish a professional presence in subject areas via active networking, social media engagement, and conference attendance.
• Promote Taylor & Francis publishing benefits within research communities.
• Drive continuous improvement in commissioning processes and optimize operational efficiency.

Knowledge and Qualifications

• Academic background and/or experience within the physical sciences.
• Commissioning experience: generating leads, identifying key opinion leaders.
• Evidence of involvement in process improvement projects.
• Journal development experience.

Location and Working Model

The role is based in the UK, with a requirement to work in‑person at our London, Blackfriars or Milton Park offices for a minimum of three days per week. Flexible working and remote work are available when not required in the office. Milton Park will relocate to Oxford city centre in late 2027 / early 2028.
