Are you a seasoned storyteller with a passion for creativity and a commitment to reaching diverse audiences? BOAT International, the leading global magazine about superyachts and the luxury lifestyle, is seeking a Deputy Editor to help shape the voice and vision of our brand. This is an exciting opportunity to join a world‑class team dedicated to producing innovative, high‑quality content primarily for the magazine, but also through our digital and live platforms. In this role, you’ll oversee the production of news, run a key section of the magazine, write top‑flight features and represent the brand at prestigious events around the world.
Key Responsibilities
- Editorial ownership: edit the On Board section of the magazine, covering superyacht news and other regulars; take editorial responsibility for the semi‑regular supplements, specials and B. Creative projects; source anecdotes for the Bitter End illustration. You will plan, write, commission and edit content, and work with designers and sub‑editors to ensure layouts meet the highest standards.
- Varied content creation: write a wide variety of pieces for the magazine as a whole, from columns on art and history, to ad hoc features about the latest superyachts, boat tests, round‑ups and interviews with industry figures and superyacht owners.
- Event integration: collaborate with the editorial team on content planning and delivery for marquee events such as the Superyacht Design Festival, Explorer Yachts Summit and Ocean Talks.
- Travel: you will travel to company and other industry events worldwide to deliver content, represent the company and gather material for editorial content.
- Editorial support: take responsibility for regular editorial admin tasks.
Qualifications
- Exceptional journalistic skills: outstanding long‑form writing, excellent editing and an eye for a story, and plenty of carefully‑honed feature ideas.
- Proven experience: a demonstrated expertise in feature writing, editing and the management of copy in an editorial environment.
- Motivation: an enthusiastic self‑starter who will put up their hand, develop ideas, own tasks and act independently.
- Organisation and detail focus: excellent organisational abilities, high standards, a keen eye for detail and the ability to manage multiple projects effectively.
- Creative and commercial balance: ability to align editorial content with brand objectives while maintaining a fresh and engaging voice.
- Industry knowledge: an understanding of luxury lifestyle is useful. An enthusiasm for learning about the superyacht industry is important, although you don’t need to come with that knowledge.
- Public facing: you’ll be comfortable attending industry events, building a network of contacts and representing the brand internationally.
- Collaborative mindset: an inclusive, team‑oriented approach is essential.
