As a Production Editor, you will oversee the production of new titles from receipt of the author’s un-copyedited typescript through to delivery of the final product, ensuring new books meet our quality requirements. The key responsibilities of the Production Editor are:
- Commissioning suppliers, preparing material for suppliers, managing relationships with, and feeding back to, suppliers
- Handling incoming queries from authors and editors
- Maintaining up-to-date information on our database
- Quality control of final content
- Controlling schedules
- Controlling budgets, and assessing and coding invoices for prompt supplier payment
- Completing multiple tasks to deadlines within a process-driven environment
Please note that training will be provided.
Qualifications: In order to be successful in this role you will:
- Be accustomed to prioritising and working to deadlines, be organised, and be able to multi-task
- Have excellent attention to detail and the ability to identify errors
- Understand the importance of maintaining information relied on by others, ideally through experience of using a database
- Be able to manage expectations so that we deliver to everyone's satisfaction
- Have the ability to problem-solve
- Be able to work on your own initiative and as part of a team
- Have the ability to build rapport with people and offer first class customer service as well as be very process-driven
- Adapt well to change and not be daunted by changing priorities
- Have basic skills in MS Office including Word, Excel and Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat Reader, and have an aptitude and enthusiasm for working with new technology
- Ideally have experience of working within budgets (but this is not essential)
- Ideally have a basic understanding of the publishing process from typescript submission to final content (but this is not essential)

This role is offered as a maternity cover contract and is due to commence early November 2026. The successful candidate will be able to utilise our balanced working model. There is an expectation for a minimum of 3 days per week in-person time, with those 3 days a week spent in our office in Milton Park, Oxfordshire.
