Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Senior Sales Manager to lead our ambitious sales activities across the UK and Ireland, combining strategic account management with new business development initiatives. This senior role focuses on negotiating and managing national Read & Publish agreements whilst driving market expansion across Academic, Government, and Health sectors for our journal and eBook portfolios.
The successful candidate will work within an integrated eBooks and Journals teams to create unified sales solutions, mentor a high‑performing team, and prospect for new business opportunities throughout the region. Working closely with the Head of Sales, they will establish Taylor & Francis as the preferred partner for both existing strategic accounts and emerging market segments across the UK and Ireland.
This is a hybrid role with 3 days of in‑person time per week worked from our office in Milton Park, Oxfordshire.
What you’ll be doing
- Designing, implementing and owning a 1‑to‑3‑year sales strategy for eBooks, Journals and Open Access within your territory
- Develop and implement comprehensive strategies for consortium‑level partnerships and multi‑institutional agreements
- Monitor and optimise performance of existing national agreements to maximise value for all parties
- Achieve and exceed annual territory sales targets, contributing to the overall revenue and profit objectives of the business division
- Provide coaching, guidance, and professional development to create high‑performing specialists in both new business and account management covering both eBooks and journals
- Plan schedules and carry out regular customer sales visits, conference attendance to achieve financial targets within own sales region across product portfolio. Travel for this role is expected to be 30% to 50%
- Achieve a profitable balance between driving and maximising core revenues whilst exploring new avenues and products
- Integrate eBooks and Journals sales teams to create a unified, efficient territorial coverage model
- Schedule, plan and execute regular sales visits to customers across the territory (when appropriate) to achieve financial targets within the sales region across product portfolio
- Customise sales documentation and tools to maximise commercial opportunities
- Develop strong professional and industry stakeholder networks with key accounts within the assigned territory
- Cultivate strong, holistic relationships with the customer base, including consortium leaders and government officials, working to ensure that trading with each account is sustainable, profitable and delivering a high level of customer satisfaction
- Seek new customers and business development opportunities to grow Academic division revenues in region
Qualifications
- Proven track record in academic publishing sales with demonstrated success in both strategic account management and new business development
- Experience with consortium sales, Read & Publish agreements, or national‑level negotiations preferred
- Previous success in a sales role, with a track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets, developing and maintaining strong customer relationships, and identifying new business opportunities
- Strong understanding of the academic publishing industry, including Journals, eBooks, and Open Research landscape
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and proactively, with the judgement to delegate tasks when appropriate
- Solid commercial acumen, including experience managing budgets and achieving revenue targets
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast‑paced sales environment

Location: We believe that great things happen when people connect face‑to‑face. That's why we work in‑person with each other, or with customers and partners, three days a week or more. When you’re not spending time together in one of our offices or other workplaces – like at conference – you get the flexibility and support to work from home or remotely. The successful candidate will be able to utilise our balanced working model. We ask that candidates live within a commutable distance of our UK offices in Milton Park, Oxfordshire to ensure that as a balanced worker they can make it to our office locations to collaborate as required. There is an expectation for a minimum of 3 days per week in‑person time. Our Milton Park office will be relocating to Oxford city centre in late 2027/early 2028, offering an exciting new workplace in the heart of the city.
