As an Employment Law Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in implementing and communicating the latest legislation and best practices within the UK and internationally. You will develop global policy frameworks, collaborate with overseas legal experts, and provide strategic guidance on employment law, global mobility, and compliance matters. This role also involves managing high-risk cases, leading investigations, and delivering impactful training to enhance organizational capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Policy Development & Compliance
- Develop global policy frameworks supported by regional policies.
- Collaborate with overseas lawyers to ensure policies align with current legislation and best practices.
- Ensure compliance with local labor laws and regulations across jurisdictions.
- Deliver in-house training for line managers on UK legislation and operational risk reduction.
- Create practical resources, case studies, and templates to support HR teams.
- Evaluate HR decisions for risk and provide timely, accurate advice on employment issues.
- Employee Relations & Investigations
- Lead investigations for grievances and manage high-risk employee relations cases.
- Liaise with unions and ACAS to resolve disputes professionally and constructively.
- Global Mobility
- Provide expert guidance on international assignments, relocations, immigration compliance, and cross-border employment arrangements.
- Collaborate with tax advisors and legal experts on global mobility policies and corporate tax implications.
- Stakeholder Engagement
- Lead the Global Colleague Forum to enhance employee experience and promote inclusivity.
- Partner with internal and external stakeholders to navigate jurisdictional requirements.
Ideal Candidate will have:
- In-depth Knowledge of Employment Legislation
- Comprehensive understanding of UK employment legislation, including TUPE.
- Familiarity with host country employment law compliance and local labor regulations.
- Global Mobility Expertise
- Extensive experience in global mobility frameworks, including immigration law, visa/work permit processes, and international employment contracts.
- Knowledge of permanent establishment risks, corporate tax implications, and duty of care obligations for international assignees.
- Ability to manage dual employment arrangements, secondment agreements, and expatriate employment contracts.
- Policy Development & Compliance
- Proven experience in writing and implementing UK policies and processes.
- Ability to collaborate with legal and compliance experts to address cross-border challenges and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Experience leading employment-related aspects of establishing entities in new countries.
- Employee Relations & Investigations
- Strong investigative skills with attention to detail and objectivity.
- Experience managing high-risk cases, including complex employee relations matters, disciplinary actions, and potential litigation.
- Ability to liaise with unions and address questions and concerns in a professional and constructive manner.
- Experience working with ACAS in dispute resolution and managing conciliation and pre-litigation processes.
- Training & Development
- Demonstrated ability to design and deliver impactful in-house training for line managers and HR teams, linking to UK legislation and global mobility best practices.
- Experience creating practical resources, including case studies, templates, and guidance notes to enhance HR capabilities.
- Analytical & Risk Management Skills
- Strong analytical skills to assess and proactively address employment-related risks.
- Expertise in evaluating HR decisions for risk/mitigation and providing clear, practical advice on complex legal and compliance matters.
- Stakeholder Management & Communication
- Exceptional communication skills, including oral, written, and presentation abilities.
- Strong influencing skills at senior levels and the ability to interact with multiple levels across jurisdictions with an international mindset.
