The Alternative Credit strategy invests in businesses and assets that generate contractual cash flows, sitting at the intersection of credit, private equity, and real assets.
The hire will join a team the firm describes as one of the most active and experienced in the CLO market, managing a range of publicly traded and open-ended funds and accounts across multiple investment strategies, with a primary focus on European CLO tranches, both equity and debt.
The role spans the full investment process: sourcing opportunities, analysis and evaluation, developing investment recommendations, and ongoing performance monitoring and portfolio risk management.
A significant portion of the role involves deep analysis of the CLO market, including reviewing bank loans and issuance data to develop views on risk and relative value.
Responsibilities include evaluating new CLO investments across debt and equity tranches -- assessing deal structure and legal documentation, the underlying collateral portfolio, and the CLO manager -- and applying qualitative and quantitative methods to determine relative risk and value.
The successful candidate will prepare and present clear, well-reasoned investment recommendations and will monitor an assigned portfolio of existing investments to track performance and identify emerging risks.
The position also involves regular engagement with CLO managers to discuss credit performance, trading activity, and potential new business, working closely with Ares' credit research professionals, and representing the firm and team in client and prospective-client meetings.
Ares is looking for candidates with four to seven years of direct CLO experience, a higher-level undergraduate degree, and strong verbal and written communication skills capable of articulating investment risk and relative value clearly.
Self-motivation, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to operate in a fast-moving, collegial environment are emphasized, with European language skills considered a plus.
This hire reflects continued growth in assets under management across Ares' Alternative Credit platform, which spans public and private CLO strategies in both the US and European markets.
