Job Description:

About the role

We’re looking for an enthusiastic and passionate retail assistant to join our team at our charity shop in Heavitree, Exeter. It’s a part time position that will see you working some days with the manager, and on others being the sole supervisor for the shop.

It’s a hands-on position that will give you a chance to develop your customer service and merchandising skills, and learn to support and motivate our loyal volunteers.

All the InFocus shops exist to make sure the charity can continue to support young adults with vision impairment and complex needs.

About you

We are looking for someone who is friendly, confident and hard-working to join our retail team. You’ll need to be comfortable working as part of a team that shares the different duties including handling cash, working the till, merchandising, and processing donations from our supporters.

There will be days when you are the only member of staff on duty, so you also need to be happy with the responsibility of opening, running and closing the shop.

Experience of retail is useful, but the world of charity retail might look quite different to what you’ve experience in other settings.

Working pattern

You will be working 3 days a week (22.5 hours) on a two week, rolling rota (which will always include a Monday, and sometimes include weekends).

How we say “thank you”

  • 25 Days plus Bank Holidays (pro-rata for part-time hours)
  • Occupational sick pay scheme from day one
  • Paid medical appointments
  • Comprehensive training and development
  • Enhanced paternity leave
  • Enhanced maternity pay
  • Access to discounted shopping
  • On-site free parking
  • 24-hour employee assistance programme
  • “Death in service” life assurance and group accident cover
  • Cycle to Work Scheme
  • Contributory pension scheme for eligible staff

About our application process

When providing a supporting statement, please refer to the job description and person specification in the application pack and include information that shows your suitability for the role.

Please Note: Where you do not provide a supporting statement and a full and up to date CV, your application will not be considered.

If your application is shortlisted, you will be contacted by the recruiting manager for a brief initial conversation to check suitability for the role.

We reserve the right to close this advert early when we receive a high volume of applicants.

Equality, diversity and safeguarding

We are a disability friendly employer and actively encourage candidates with a disability to apply. If you need support with completing your application form, please

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All posts are conditional to an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring check (DBS), satisfactory medical check, references and evidence of the right to work in the UK.

Staff have a responsibility to inform InFocus of any conviction or prosecution that occurs whilst employed.

It is an offence to apply for the role if the applicant is barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children and adults at risk.

To be eligible for this position, we require candidates to either hold British citizenship or have the right to work in the UK. Unfortunately, we are unable to sponsor applications from candidates who do not currently possess the right to work in the UK.
