We are currently seeking an experienced and highly organised Business Manager to the Managing Director to join our team based in Wolverhampton. This is a key role within the business, acting as the Managing Director’s operational right-hand and supporting the effective day-to-day management of the recruitment, transport, and subcontract services business operating across UK infrastructure projects, alongside coordination and oversight of property interests.
The successful candidate will take ownership of internal operational cadence, financial visibility, commercial administration, compliance coordination, and supplier and stakeholder management. This role is designed to enable the Managing Director to focus on strategic growth, client relationships, and commercial delivery, while ensuring internal business operations run smoothly and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Operational Management
- Supporting day-to-day business operations across recruitment, transport, and subcontract project delivery
- Managing workflows across the business to ensure operational efficiency
- Maintaining operational reporting dashboards for Managing Director review
- Supporting the coordination of internal processes and business performance reporting
- Compliance & Governance
- Coordinating compliance across multiple business areas, including candidate compliance audits
- Managing insurance certification and renewal processes
- Supporting accreditation oversight and internal or external audits
- Coordinating framework-specific onboarding requirements for utilities, civils, and infrastructure clients
- Maintaining audit-ready documentation for clients and regulatory bodies
- Managing subcontractor agreements and contractual paperwork
- Property Portfolio Management
- Acting as the first point of contact for letting agents, tenants, and maintenance providers
- Coordinating property maintenance schedules and remedial works
- Monitoring rental income, service charges, and property-related expenditure
- Assisting with refinancing, insurance renewals, and compliance certifications including EICR, EPC, and Gas Safety
- Maintaining asset performance reporting across the property portfolio
- Managing Director Support
- Managing priority actions and follow-ups across the Managing Director’s workstreams
- Preparing summary briefings for key commercial meetings
- Supporting the delivery of strategic initiatives and process improvements
- Assisting with the coordination of high-level operational and commercial priorities
Key Requirements
- Previous experience in operations or business management within one or more of the following:
- Recruitment
- Infrastructure or construction subcontracting
- Engineering services
- Experience within a multi-sector SME environment would be highly advantageous
- Strong financial literacy, including understanding of cashflow, margin tracking, and debtor management
- Experience managing suppliers and third-party service providers
- High level of organisational ability with strong commercial awareness
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial and/or CRM systems
- Strong communication skills and the ability to manage a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
