We are currently seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor / Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our client in Birmingham. This is an excellent opportunity to work on major civil engineering and infrastructure projects, supporting commercial activities from project inception through to final account.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing project costs, maximising value, minimising risk, and ensuring commercial objectives are achieved. The role will involve close collaboration with operational teams, clients, subcontractors, and stakeholders to deliver projects safely, efficiently, and profitably.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing all commercial aspects of civil engineering and infrastructure projects.
  • Preparing, reviewing, and administering contracts and subcontract agreements.
  • Measuring and valuing works completed on site.
  • Producing applications for payment, valuations, and final accounts.
  • Managing subcontractor procurement, payments, and commercial performance.
  • Monitoring project costs, budgets, forecasts, and cash flow.
  • Identifying and managing risks, opportunities, variations, and compensation events.
  • Supporting the preparation and negotiation of claims and contractual matters.
  • Producing accurate commercial reports and cost-value reconciliations.
  • Ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and company procedures.
  • Building and maintaining strong working relationships with clients, suppliers, and project teams.
  • Supporting junior commercial staff and mentoring team members where appropriate.

Key Requirements

  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related discipline.
  • Previous experience within civil engineering, infrastructure, rail, highways, utilities, or construction sectors.
  • Good understanding of NEC contracts and commercial management principles.
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and commercial reporting systems.
  • Proven ability to manage subcontractors, commercial risks, and project profitability.
