Job Overview

We are seeking an energetic and reliable Yardsman/Woman to join our dynamic team!

In this vital role, you will be responsible for maintaining the organization and safety of our yard and warehouse areas.

Your proactive approach will ensure smooth operations, efficient materials handling, and proper equipment maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the site yard, compound and storage areas in a clean, safe and organised condition.
  • Receive, check, unload and store materials, tools and equipment.
  • Load and prepare plant, materials and equipment for delivery to site.
  • Assist with the loading and unloading of delivery vehicles, ensuring materials are secured correctly.
  • Move materials, tools and equipment around the yard and site as required.
  • Keep accurate records of materials, equipment and deliveries.
  • Carry out basic checks of plant, tools and equipment and report defects or damage.
  • Ensure equipment is clean, stored correctly and ready for use.
  • Assist with the preparation of materials for civils and highways works.
  • Support site teams with general labouring duties when required.
  • Assist with housekeeping, waste removal and maintaining clear access routes.
  • Ensure pedestrian and vehicle routes within the yard are kept safe and unobstructed.
  • Follow site RAMS, permits, traffic management arrangements and safety procedures.
  • Assist with segregation of plant, vehicles, materials and pedestrians within the compound.
  • Report damaged materials, unsafe conditions, spillages or defective equipment to the Site Supervisor.
  • Assist with delivery and collection of plant and equipment.
  • Ensure tools and equipment are returned to the correct storage areas after use.
  • Support the wider civils/highways team with ad-hoc duties as directed by the Site Supervisor/Foreman.
  • Maintain high standards of health, safety and environmental compliance at all times.

Workers are expected to have the appropriate skills, knowledge, training and experience for their tasks and follow site rules

Qualifications

  • Proven experience working in a construction environment with familiarity in materials handling and shipping & receiving procedures
  • Valid CSCS Card
  • CPCS Telehandler
  • Strong understanding of systems for tracking inventory and shipments
  • Ability to lift heavy loads safely repeatedly throughout the shift
  • Comfortable working outdoors or in warehouse conditions with physical stamina for heavy lifting and manual tasks
