The Health and Safety Advisor is responsible for promoting and ensuring a safe working environment by advising on best practices, conducting risk assessments, ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety regulations, and leading safety initiatives. This role is key in fostering a safety-first culture throughout the organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and maintain workplace health and safety programs and policies.
  • Conduct risk assessments, safety inspections, and audits across worksites and facilities.
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and hazards; provide detailed reports and follow-up actions.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal health and safety regulations (e.g., OSHA, WHMIS).
  • Deliver safety training, toolbox talks, and orientation sessions for employees and contractors.
  • Advise management and staff on occupational health and safety matters.
  • Coordinate emergency response plans, drills, and first aid readiness.
  • Liaise with regulatory agencies, third-party auditors, and internal stakeholders.
  • Monitor and report on safety performance metrics and recommend improvements.
  • Support development of Safe Work Procedures (SWPs) and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs).
  • Keep up to date with relevant health and safety legislation, standards, and best practices.
Qualifications
  • Degree, diploma, or certification in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, or related discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience in a health and safety role, preferably in construction, manufacturing, oil & gas.
  • In-depth knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation and regulatory frameworks.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication, training, and interpersonal abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and safety management software.
Preferred Skills & Certifications
  • CRSP, NEBOSH, CHSC, or equivalent health and safety certifications.
  • Experience with ISO 45001, COR, or other safety management systems.
  • First Aid / CPR, WHMIS, or other relevant safety training certifications.
  • Incident investigation (e.g., TapRooT, Root Cause Analysis) training.
