The Engineering Lead / Architect is responsible for defining and governing the endâtoâend solution architecture for the migration of Atlassian Jira and Confluence from Data Center (DC) to Atlassian Cloud. This includes designing the near real-time data replica, abstraction API, integration patterns, and the technical migration blueprint. The role acts as the technical lead across all phases of the migration lifecycle â Discovery, Cleansing, Standardisation, Target-State Design, Pilot Migration, UAT, Production Cutover, Validation, Reconciliation, Hypercare, and BAU Handover. The Architect ensures the entire solution is robust, scalable, secure, and aligned with enterprise architecture standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Design the end-to-end architecture covering data replica, synchronisation engine, abstraction API, and overall integration landscape.
- Define canonical data models, API contracts, transformation rules, and mode-switch logic for dual-running DC and Cloud systems.
- Evaluate and select suitable technology platforms for database, integration, API gateway, message/event streaming, and automation.
Security, Governance & Compliance
- Ensure adherence to security, compliance, data privacy, legal hold, and regulatory requirements throughout the migration.
- Establish data governance standards, lineage, traceability, and audit requirements for Jira/Confluence migration.
Technical Delivery Leadership
- Produce architectural artefacts including HLDs, LLDs, sequence diagrams, data flow diagrams, design specifications, and decision logs (ADRs).
- Review, validate, and approve detailed technical designs delivered by engineering teams and vendors.
- Provide expert guidance on scalability, resiliency, performance optimisation, rate limiting, and error-handling patterns.
Migration Lifecycle Leadership
- Lead the team across all migration phases:
- Pre-Migration: Discovery, data cleansing, configuration standardisation, integration analysis, target-state architecture.
- Migration Execution: Pilot migration, iterative migration waves, UAT cycles, production cutover.
- Post-Migration: Validation & reconciliation, defect resolution, hypercare, and operational handover.
Required Skills & Experience
- 8+ years in Solution Architecture or Enterprise Architecture, ideally within large-scale transformation programs.
- Deep handsâon knowledge of hybrid cloud/onâprem architectures.
- Familiarity with Atlassian Cloud APIs, REST endpoints, export/import frameworks, identity integrations, and associated tooling.
- Strong experience producing architecture documentation, design specifications, diagrams, and decision logs.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and leadership skills.
