Role Summary
We are seeking a senior, hands-on AWS Technology Lead / Solution Architect to lead a large-scale application modernization programme, transforming legacy Java enterprise applications into scalable, secure and cloud-native AWS solutions.
The role combines AWS architecture, Java engineering, serverless, containers, database architecture/DBA, Dev Ops, platform engineering and customer-facing technical leadership.
The ideal candidate must be able to move between architecture workshops, hands-on engineering, Dynamo DB/Aurora Postgre SQL, CI/CD, production readiness and technical team leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- AWS Cloud & Application Modernization
- Lead modernization of enterprise Java applications into AWS cloud-native, microservices and event-driven architectures.
- Define target architecture, modernization roadmap, transition states and technical standards.
- Drive API-first, Domain-Driven Design (DDD), microservices and serverless adoption.
- Design and implement ECS, Fargate, Docker, ECR, Lambda, API Gateway, Event Bridge, SQS, SNS and Step Functions.
- Implement AWS security, networking, monitoring and operational services including IAM, VPC, Cloud Watch, Cloud Trail, S3, Secrets Manager, Route 53 and Private Link.
- Java / Software Engineering
- Provide hands-on technical leadership across Java 11/17+, Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, REST APIs, Python and Type Script.
- Guide teams in microservices, distributed systems, asynchronous integration and fault-tolerant design.
- Conduct architecture/code reviews and contribute to POCs, technical spikes and complex defect resolution.
- Establish coding standards, design patterns and secure development practices.
- Database Architecture & DBA
- Strong hands-on expertise with Amazon Dynamo DB and Amazon Aurora Postgre SQL/Postgre SQL.
- Design Dynamo DB data models, including partition keys, sort keys, GSI/LSI, TTL, Streams and Global Tables.
- Troubleshoot Dynamo DB hot partitions, throttling, performance and cost issues.
- Design Aurora Postgre SQL schemas, indexing, partitioning and high-availability solutions.
- Perform SQL tuning, execution-plan analysis and query optimization.
- Handle backup, recovery, replication, failover, patching and disaster recovery.
- Lead database migrations from Oracle, My SQL, Postgre SQL or other legacy platforms.
- Dev Ops & Platform Engineering
- Design and govern CI/CD using Jenkins, Git, Git Hub Actions, AWS Code Pipeline and Code Build.
- Implement infrastructure automation using Terraform and/or Cloud Formation.
- Establish automated testing, security scanning, code quality and release controls.
- Define monitoring, logging, tracing, alerting and SLO practices.
- Drive Dev Sec Ops and continuous improvement.
- Technical & Customer Leadership
- Act as the primary technical contact for customer architects and engineering/programme stakeholders.
- Lead discovery sessions, architecture workshops, design reviews and technical governance.
- Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
- Communicate architecture decisions, risks, dependencies and delivery status to technical and executive stakeholders.
- Lead and mentor architects, developers, Dev Ops/cloud engineers and database specialists.
