The Product Writer (Polaris) Developer is responsible for designing, configuring, and enhancing insurance products within the Polaris Product Writer platform. The role focuses on translating underwriting and pricing requirements into configurable product logic, ensuring accuracy, performance, and seamless integration with Policy Administration Systems (PAS) and downstream platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, configure, and maintain insurance products using Polaris Product Writer.
  • Develop and enhance rating structures, rules, and product schemas, including Skeleton Schemes, RTE, and XRTE modules.
  • Implement complex pricing logic, underwriting rules, coverages, endorsements, and eligibility criteria.
  • Configure and manage product versions for New Business, MTAs, Renewals, Cancellations, and Reinstatements.
  • Integrate Product Writer with Policy Administration Systems (PAS) and external rating engines.
  • Support SOAP / API-based integrations for product configuration and pricing workflows.
  • Work closely with PAS, aggregation, and distribution teams to ensure end-to-end quote-to-bind journeys function correctly.
  • Collaborate with Underwriters, Actuaries, Product Managers, and Business Analysts to understand pricing and product intent.
  • Translate business and actuarial specifications into technical product configurations within Polaris.
  • Support impact analysis for product changes, regulatory updates, and pricing amendments.
  • Support unit testing, SIT, and UAT by assisting testing teams with product behaviour explanations and defect analysis.
  • Ensure product configurations meet performance, accuracy, and governance standards prior to release.
  • Maintain configuration documentation and version history for audit and governance purposes.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Strong hands-on experience with Polaris Product Writer development.
  • Proven experience in insurance product modelling and pricing configuration.
  • Deep understanding of rating logic, rule-based configuration, and product schemas.
  • Solid knowledge of insurance policy lifecycle and PAS integration.
  • Experience working in Agile delivery environments.
  • Experience with Skeleton Schemes, RTE, XRTE, and rating rule configuration.
  • Knowledge of SOAP / APIs and system-to-system integrations.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret underwriting and actuarial inputs.
  • Working knowledge of Excel (including macros) for data validation and analysis.
