Infinity Employment are seeking an experienced Engineering Support Technician to join a well-established and growing manufacturing company based in Portsmouth, specialising in products used within safety and security-critical applications. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong practical electronics background who enjoys variety and wants to develop their experience across product testing, fault-finding, compliance, certification, production support and technical engineering.
Working closely with the Compliance Engineer and wider Engineering Team, you will play an important role in ensuring products are tested, certified, supported and continuously improved throughout their lifecycle. This is a varied, hands-on position where no two days will necessarily be the same.
Location: Portsmouth based
Salary: £34,000 – £40,000 per annum, depending on experience and skill set
Permanent role
The Role: Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting product certification and regulatory compliance activities
- Preparing products, samples and technical documentation for external test houses
- Carrying out product testing and validation for development, certification and customer investigations
- Debugging electronic products to component level
- Investigating product faults and supporting root-cause and failure analysis
- Building and maintaining test setups, test leads and fixtures
- Recording, analysing and documenting test results
- Producing technical reports and maintaining accurate engineering records
- Supporting product evaluations and Engineering Sample Assessments (ESAs)
- Assisting with engineering changes and product modifications
- Compiling and maintaining BOMs and technical documentation
- Supporting Production with BOM, labelling, component and product issues
- Inspecting, modifying and testing products when required
- Providing technical support to customers, installers and internal teams
- Supporting product returns and technical investigations
- Preparing customer evaluation samples
- Coordinating engineering orders, sample shipments and calibration activities
- Supporting the smooth day-to-day running of the engineering laboratory
You will work closely with teams across Engineering, Production, Sales and Customer Support, so strong communication skills and a collaborative approach are essential.
Experience required: The successful candidate will ideally have:
- HND, Foundation Degree, Higher Technical Qualification or equivalent in Electronics, Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
- Previous experience within electronics testing and fault-finding
- Experience debugging electronic products to component level
- A practical and methodical approach to problem-solving
- Ability to read and interpret electronic circuit diagrams and technical drawings
- Good understanding of datasheets, specifications and technical manuals
- Strong technical documentation and report-writing skills
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
- Ability to manage several tasks and priorities at the same time
- Confidence working across different departments
- A hands-on attitude and willingness to learn
Desirable Experience: It would be particularly beneficial if you have experience with any of the following:
- Product compliance, certification or regulatory testing
- Electronics manufacturing
- Electronic components and/or power supply products
- ERP, MRP or Product Data Management systems
- Firmware loading
- Test automation or electronic data collection
- Customer-facing technical support
- Working with external test houses
- Product testing and certification to standards such as EN54 and UL294
