We are seeking a skilled and motivated Mechanical Fitter to join a fast growing rail organisation, supporting the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of diesel and/or electric locomotives. This is a hands-on role ideal for engineers with mechanical expertise who thrive in a fast-paced rail environment. You’ll play a key part in ensuring our fleet is safe, reliable, and fully operational.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine maintenance, fault-finding, and repairs on locomotives
  • Work on mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems
  • Carry out overhauls and component rebuilds to industry standards
  • Support commissioning and testing of locomotives post-maintenance
  • Complete all job cards and maintenance records accurately
  • Adhere to safety, quality, and compliance procedures at all times
  • Work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team environment

What We’re Looking For

  • Recognised engineering qualification (NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical, Electrical or Rail Engineering)
  • Proven experience in locomotive or rolling stock maintenance
  • Strong fault-finding skills across both mechanical disciplines
