Role Overview:
Data Engineers will be responsible for helping collect and convert the data into useful data products, ready to be consumed and visualised. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing and maintaining data pipelines, ensuring the accuracy and availability of data, and supporting the creation of insightful visualisations. The ideal candidate will have experience working with railway industry data, along with proficiency in tools such as Microsoft Power Platform.
Key Responsibilities:
- User Engagement: Extract and develop requirements from end users who aren’t technically proficient. Identify where their requirements can be refined with your experience.
- Data Pipeline Development: Design, develop, and maintain robust data pipelines to collect, process, and store data from various sources within Network Rail’s routes & regions. Ensure data quality, integrity, and availability by implementing appropriate validation, transformation, and cleaning processes.
- Data Integration: Utilise tools such as MS Power Platform to integrate diverse data sources, automate workflows, and optimise data processing tasks. Collaborate with the data visualisation team to provide clean and well-structured data that supports the development of insightful and user-friendly visualisations.
- Railway Industry Data Expertise: Apply industry-specific knowledge to work with railway data, ensuring that the data solutions developed are relevant, accurate, and aligned with industry standards.
- Data Governance & Security: Implement and maintain data governance standards to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Performance Optimisation: Monitor and optimise data pipeline performance to ensure efficient data processing and minimal downtime. Troubleshoot and resolve data-related issues in a timely manner.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain comprehensive documentation of data processes, pipelines, and system architecture. Provide regular updates on data engineering activities and progress to project stakeholders.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Proven experience as a Data Engineer, preferably within the railway or transport sector, ideally within Network Rail itself.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Power Platform tools.
- Solid understanding of data integration, ETL processes, and data warehousing concepts.
- Experience working with railway industry data, including familiarity with relevant standards and regulations.
- Proficiency in SQL, Python, and/or other relevant programming languages.
- Experience with cloud-based data solutions (e.g., Azure, AWS).
Personal Attributes:
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to a non-technical audience.

We are offering a competitive salary. Infinitive also offers hybrid working with travel to offices in Milton Keynes, London, and potentially client locations as required.
