We’re looking for an experienced Precision Instrumentation Manager to lead the team responsible for the measurement and signal systems that sit at the core of our world-class metrology products. This is an equal-weight leadership and technical role — you’ll shape our instrumentation strategy, develop a talented team, and work hands-on when it counts. About the role:
A typical day for a Precision Instrumentation Manager could look like this:
- Leading the instrumentation team through coaching, mentoring, and developing people through regular feedback and reviews
- Providing technical leadership to ensure high-quality, reliable instrumentation design and delivery
- Working closely with senior leaders to shape and evolve the company’s instrumentation strategy, tooling and measurement capability
- Championing continuous improvement across products, processes, tools, and team capability
- Collaborating with system architects, optics, mechanics and controls teams to ensure seamless instrumentation integration and project delivery
- Contributing hands-on to measurement validation, signal characterisation and fault investigation when required
Who we are looking for:
To succeed as a Precision Instrumentation Manager, we do need you to have the following skills and experience:
- Significant people-management and industry experience in a precision instrumentation, metrology or semiconductor capital equipment environment
- PCB design, power supply characterisation, low noise amplifier design/selection and signal integrity
- Confidence with signal capture, conditioning and measurement chain design for sensitive instrumentation
- Signal generation and capture, including ADC and DAC selection and application
- Power delivery and grounding best practices for sensitive, complex precision equipment
- Accomplished with product lifecycle management (requirements reviewing, design reviews, engineering change, revision management)
- Instrumentation design best practice with a collegiate, practical approach to problem solving
- Comfortable in a cross-functional matrix organisation, with experience conducting and interpreting precision measurement and characterisation testing
Nice to have:
- Confidence with environmental considerations relevant to precision instrumentation (thermal management, vibration sensitivity, EMC)
- Supporting operations with first article builds and quality inspections
- Interpreting frequency domain and phase response data
- Knowledge of piezo actuator drive systems and their application in precision positioning
- Understanding of scanner or precision positioning systems
- Engaging with external partners and suppliers as part of delivery
- Project management and JIRA or similar tool-tracking software
- PCB design and simulation tools relevant to instrumentation and signal integrity
Education / Qualifications:
Either a MEng in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline, or a clear equivalent path through relevant apprenticeship or accumulated experience.
