As a Research and Development Manager at Infinitesima, you will lead a multidisciplinary team that de‑risks cutting‑edge semiconductor metrology and turns ideas into product‑ready solutions that drive technology forward, from AI to autonomous systems. You will blend people leadership with technical depth to guide direction and ensure that research outcomes become commercially viable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the intake of feasibility‑study requests, prioritise and resourced them against business goals.
  • Set how the team operates – build operating rhythms, establish logs, report formats, review routines, and coach the team on best practices.
  • Run daily team meetings, maintain a dynamic operating rhythm with clear prioritisation.
  • Ensure that results are robust and stand up to scrutiny before informing decisions.
  • Line‑manage, mentor, and develop a multidisciplinary team of engineers and scientists.
  • Own the quality and pace of solution assessments, proof‑of‑concept work and recommendations.
  • Connect R&D outputs to the product roadmap and support smooth hand‑offs into product.
  • Manage stakeholders across engineering, manufacturing, applications, service and leadership teams.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Leading and developing a technical or scientific team, ideally in instrumentation, metrology, semiconductor or deep‑tech environments.
  • Strong technical breadth across hardware, software, modelling or applications.
  • Experience turning exploratory or research work into real product impact.
  • Establishing ways of working and coaching teams to follow best practices.
  • Prioritising and resourcing competing work in fast, ambiguous environments.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management across technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Familiarity with nano‑characterisation techniques (e.g. AFM, SEM, FIB, profilometry) is a plus.
  • Experience with semiconductor customers or equipment businesses is a plus.
  • Either a degree, Masters or PhD in Physics, Engineering or a similar field, or a clear equivalent path through relevant experience.
  • Significant experience including people leadership (typically 8‑10 years).

  • Salary: £52,275 – £77,987 (depending on experience).
