About the role

We are looking for a Field Services Engineering Manager to lead a team of engineers and contractors responsible for the operation and maintenance of a fleet of Captured Methane, Power Response, Battery Energy and Solar generating assets across the South East region. Reporting to the Regional Operations Manager, the successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring safe, compliant and efficient operations, delivering high levels of site reliability and performance, whilst supporting and developing a team of engineers. This is a hands‑on leadership role requiring strong operational, technical and people management skills, with regular travel across operational sites.

Location: This role will primarily serve sites between Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Essex, with some sites also in Kent.

Key responsibilities

  • Delivery of operational performance targets including, but not limited to, reliability and availability for individual sites.
  • Lead a team of engineers, ensuring performance and conduct are managed effectively, and providing support and development through regular communication and coaching.
  • Ensure that all work is carried out safely, efficiently and to the required quality standard.
  • Raise Maximo work orders and provide technical support as required.
  • Participation in a phone support callout rota.
  • Assist the Regional Operations Manager (ROM) in compiling and managing annual budgets for kW hours of electrical generation, resource, operating (OPEX) and capital (CAPEX) expenditure.
  • Ensuring all equipment and processes comply with legislation, permits and the company’s HSQE and operational policies and procedures and that tools, equipment and vehicles are maintained in a safe, clean and functional condition.
  • Ensuring all costs are controlled in‑line with budget and taking advantage of any opportunities for cost reduction and efficiency as approved by the ROM / Director of Operations.
  • Monitor equipment both physically and by using Scada, InSITE or other available systems to identify early warning signs of operational problems and / or potential breakdowns and raising appropriate tasks in Maximo.
  • Ensure excellent communication at all levels, including Landfill Operators and landowners on whose sites we generate power / manage compliance and with regulators e.g. the Environment Agency (EA).
  • Establish equipment strategies which maximise environmental compliance minimise downtime and maximise revenue.
  • Work closely with the ROM and other managers providing your support i.e. Engineering, Electrical, C’I, Operations Performance and Compliance.
  • Maintain a visible presence and conduct regular audits across sites, keeping abreast of any local technical issues or personnel matters, and ensuring the ROM is informed of field‑based issues as appropriate.
  • Management of stores such that a suitable and comprehensive inventory of stock is maintained and regularly reviewed to cover operational requirements.
  • Ensuring that you and all employed staff and contractors are qualified and trained for the tasks they undertake and that they comply with the company’s procedures, HSQE policies and relevant legislation.

About you

  • Strong mechanical knowledge, ideally supported by a mechanical or electrical engineering qualification.
  • Previous experience leading an engineering team (preferred).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to build effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Safety‑conscious with a proactive approach to health and safety.
  • Experience working on low‑voltage electrical systems with an understanding of base load or power response (preferred).
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Ability to travel to sites across the South East region.
  • Experience within renewable energy or waste management industries (preferred).
