At INEOS Energy we produce and trade oil, gas, liquefied natural gas (LNG) and carbon credits. This is supported by our investments in low carbon technologies, which will help sustain our business through the energy transition. We are looking for an Operations Geologist to join our team in London on a fixed-term basis (approx. 12 months). This role will act as the key interface between the subsurface team and drilling operations, ensuring geological objectives are achieved safely and efficiently. This role involves planning, real-time monitoring, and post-well analysis to optimize well delivery and mitigate geological risks.
Responsibilities
- Pre-Drill Planning
- Prepare geological programmes, including responsibility for the Ineos Well Proposal Document (WPD).
- Review offset data and identify geological risks.
- Coordinate with drilling engineers and subsurface teams to align well objectives.
- Contribute to the DWOP (drill on paper exercise).
- Communicate with service companies and input into mudlogging and LWD/MWD/Wireline programmes.
- Ensure all well operations are correctly permitted using the NSTA’s WONS in compliance with UK regulatory requirements.
- Drilling Operations
- Focal point for monitoring real-time drilling data from the rig.
- Regular communication with the wellsite geologists and interfacing with the subsurface team and drilling team.
- QAQC of MWD/LWD data, geological lithlog, and Daily Geological reports.
- Ensure casing points and data acquisition decisions are made in a timely way.
- Maintain communication between office and rig teams, ensuring timely updates and decision-making.
- Contractor & Data Management
- Supervise geological service providers in conjunction with Senior Drilling Engineer.
- Manage data acquisition, QA/QC, and distribution to stakeholders.
- Post-Well Activities
- Compile end-of-well reports, composite logs, and lessons learned.
- Supply geological data for archiving and contribute to continuous improvement for future wells.
- Submit relevant notifications and updates to the NSTA.
- HSSE Compliance
- Promote and enforce health, safety, security, and environmental standards during all phases of operations.
Skills, Experience & Education
- Degree in Geology, Geoscience, or related discipline.
- Proven experience in operations or wellsite geology within oil & gas.
- Strong knowledge of MWD/LWD, mudlogging, wireline, and coring operations.
- Familiarity with geological software (Geolog) and real-time data interpretation tools.
- Understanding of UK regulatory frameworks and experience with WONS permitting processes.
