Mechanical Development Engineer

The Role

Join a highly specialised engineering team developing advanced electrolyser technology for global markets. You’ll play a key role in improving product performance, reliability, and manufacturing capability while ensuring full compliance with SHE and engineering standards.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead mechanical design and manufacturing process development for electrolyser technologies
  • Support delivery of major projects, including BiChlor & Alkali Water Electrolysis (AWE) and wider capital programmes
  • Drive continuous improvement to enhance quality, reduce costs, and increase capacity
  • Provide engineering support to in-house manufacturing, pilot plants, and global supply chain partners
  • Contribute to capital projects involving plant expansion, refurbishment, and process optimisation
  • Support development and implementation of manufacturing processes including tooling, automation, and plant capability upgrades
  • Work closely with suppliers to improve quality, performance, and production capability (Take technical ownership of supplier performance, driving quality, delivery, and cost improvements across a global supply chain)
  • Identify and implement cost reduction and value engineering opportunities
  • Carry out design analysis, risk assessments, and testing programmes
  • Support the refurbishment and development of new and existing technologies
  • Contribute to customer projects, ensuring technical accuracy and successful delivery

What We’re Looking For

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Proven experience in a similar role
  • Strong experience in manufacturing, fabrication, and precision engineering environments
  • Knowledge of regulatory frameworks such as PED/PSSR, PUWER, LOLER, Machinery Directive
  • Experience working with quality system (e.g. ISO 9001)
  • Commercial awareness to support EBITDA growth
  • Proven problem-solving skills (e.g. FMEA, root cause analysis)
  • Ability to work effectively across teams and with external partners
  • Self-motivated with the tenacity to see tasks and projects to completion
