Reporting to the Plant Support Team Leader, the post holder will work as part of the FPS South Technical Team to provide chemical engineering support to all aspects of the asset operations to deliver short to medium term asset strategy. The post holder will be the primary chemical engineering focal point for his / her designated process plant area. He or she will work within a multi-discipline asset team delivering safe, reliable and competitive operation of the asset.

What does the day to day look like?

  • Monitor the operation, and identify and implement improvements to deliver the asset availability, reliability, quality and target variable costs.
  • Identify and support implementation of projects (capital and revenue) to improve the asset reliability, quality and variable cost budget to meet the business plan.
  • Develop and maintain asset process/ process safety documentation to ensure continued operation within asset design and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead plant improvent modifications as job responsible engineer, collaborating with other disciplines / stakholders and working within the FPS management of change process.
  • Deliver formal chemical engineering input and approval for all plant modifications to ensure delivery of fit for purpose and fully documented asset improvements (including all TAR modifications scope).
  • Provide chemical engineering discipline expertise in troubleshooting asset vulnerabilities to minimise impact upon the short to medium term asset operating plan.
  • Chair or participate in site operational risk assessments and technical investigations.
  • Provide chemical engineering input to asset hazard identification studies (HAZOP, LOPA, QRA) and carry out technical work to support close out inc. ALARP assessment.
  • Complete the chemical engineering field checks of plant modifications to ensure equipment is installed per the design.
  • Develop, maintain and implement tools and processes to monitor asset operations to ensure the process remains within the safe operating limits.
  • Complete technical investigations required to understand the root cause of any process excursions / envelope breaches / quality issues / equipment failures and make recommendations to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Develop strong working relationships with asset stakeholders including; operations; commercial / feedstock planning teams; upstream and downstream asset teams to facilitate an integrated approach to technical issues.
  • Coach/mentor interns and graduates to support professional development of individuals and increase asset/site/company competency levels
  • Job holder expected to be part of the FPS Incident Management Team (formal rota).
  • Periods of inconvenience to support planned and unplanned outages.

what do I need?

  • Chartered Chemical Engineer or working towards chartered status with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in oil and gas or chemical industry operations. This experience ideally should be wide ranging and cover some experience of projects, design and manufacturing environments.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to create relationships with stakeholders and 3rd party specialists.
  • Strong, demonstrable SHE and process safety leadership within the office and plant environment.
  • Demonstrable experience of providing Process Engineering support to either onshore or offshore operations.
  • Knowledge of risk assessment and management processes – knowledge of specific tools required and ability to interpret results.
  • Strong knowledge of management of change processes.
  • Awareness of human factors influence on process safety.
  • Good understanding & awareness of on and offshore processes & working practices.
  • A basic knowledge of other engineering disciplines; mechanical; instrumentation; control systems.
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office and industry standard process engineering software.
