About The Daily Mile Foundation

The Daily Mile was created by one headteacher and her school community as a simple solution to a modern global challenge, and it has become a flagship model for increasing levels of physical activity and supporting children’s health within schools across the UK and globally. The Daily Mile model is simple: 15 minutes of children running, wheeling or walking – at their own pace – outdoors with friends. It is led by the teacher and takes place during class time. Evidence shows this simple act profoundly improves children’s physical, social and emotional wellbeing, regardless of a child’s age, ability or personal circumstances. With over 21,000 schools across 97 countries registered to participate in The Daily Mile over a 10‑year period, the task of building on these strong foundations is an exciting and challenging one. The charity is UK‑based with a London headquarters but has a global reach.

The Role

We’re looking for an analytical and proactive Insight & Impact Officer to lead The Daily Mile Foundation’s research, data, insight and impact measurement function, ensuring that we can use our findings to drive our learning and inform our decision making. You will support the team and our partners in the use of processes and systems that measure the outputs, outcomes and long-term impact of The Daily Mile. This will mean being able to create compelling reports and visualisations to communicate findings and to work closely with the charities’ marketing & communications function to tell compelling stories about the impact of the charities’ work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Impact Measurement & Evaluation
    • Design and implement frameworks to measure outputs, outcomes and long‑term impact.
    • Implement a standardised approach to measurement, evaluation and learning across the organisation.
    • Contribute to developing a consistent set of internal KPIs to monitor performance.
  • Insight & Data Analysis
    • Manage data systems and processes to ensure accuracy and security of our data.
    • Strengthen quality and breadth of data sources by identifying new ways to collect, analyse and apply insights.
    • Maintain and strengthen our GIS mapping tool to ensure accurate, up‑to‑date information.
    • Develop new techniques for audience research and segmentation.
    • Use insight to inform strategic decisions and shape the future of the organisations work.
  • Strengthening the Evidence Base
    • Support The Daily Mile Research Advisory Group to further strengthen the evidence base for The Daily Mile.
    • Work with the team and the academic community to identify gaps in the current evidence base and identify potential collaborations to fill these gaps.
  • Reporting & Stakeholder Engagement
    • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to share insights and learning.
    • Use reports and visualisations to present impact findings to stakeholders in a clear, creative, and engaging way.
    • Work closely with the marketing & communications function to use data and insight to tell compelling stories about the impact of charities’ work.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • 1–2 years of experience in an insight, impact measurement or research focused role.
  • Strong understanding of a range of qualitative and quantitative data collection methods and when and how to utilise them.
  • Strong technical skills, including confident use of Excel and familiarity with tools such as Power BI, GIS mapping platforms and other data analysis or visualisation software.
  • Familiarity with survey tools (e.g., Microsoft Forms, Google Forms, or Survey Monkey).
  • Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to working with data and insight.
  • Ability to interpret data and communicate insights clearly to a wide range of audiences.
  • Well-organised and able to manage multiple projects or workstreams simultaneously.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative, mission-led environment.

Desirable:

  • Experience working in the charity, education, health or sports sectors.
  • Understanding of children’s health inequalities and physical activity challenges.
  • Experience using CRM systems to manage or analyse contact data.
