INDUSTRY of Us is a dynamic, growing global innovation consultancy that embraces curiosity, creativity and collaboration to help people solve the innovation challenges of today and tomorrow.

A little bit about us: INDUSTRY of Us works with global brands and organisations to explore future consumer and user market needs, identify opportunities for innovation, co-create new solutions and apply design as a tool to make ideas tangible and actionable. We work for clients in the consumer lifestyle and consumer healthcare sectors, as well as social enterprises and not-for-profit organisations. Our core team is based in Bristol, UK, and supported by a global network of 100 independent researchers and designers around the world - our network of Creative Cultural Guides (CCGs). We are naturally curious as a team, always looking for an outside-in perspective to the challenges we work on. We are future-focussed in our outlook. We are restless experimenters looking to push creativity further, helping us stay at the forefront of innovation practice. For us, no two projects are ever the same and every day is a new adventure and opportunity to learn. We are known for being highly collaborative in the way we work, co-creating with experts, consumers, users, our CCGs and our clients.

About the role: We are looking for a Design Researcher to support the team to deliver insight, innovation and design projects for clients. You’ll get involved in a range of projects using different design research techniques and you’ll also help with key activities needed to keep the office and team running smoothly.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Project set-up: scheduling sessions, finding venues, booking travel
  • Designing stimulus for working sessions, sourcing materials and product samples, gathering inspirational content
  • Helping to set up and run consumer and user research studies, including designing materials, recruiting consumers and moderating consumer sessions
  • Desk research to explore relevant topics, trends and collect insight and evidence
  • Making sense of insight and trends to generate opportunity spaces for innovation
  • Participating in creative sessions, both internal and with clients
  • Capturing the output from creative sessions and projects, including visualising and bringing outputs to life in engaging ways
  • Supporting training programs, helping to up-skill client teams in creativity, innovation and facilitation
  • Creation of marketing materials: sourcing imagery, writing posts and thought pieces, updating our website

What are we looking for?

  • Educated to degree level
  • Understanding of design thinking, design research and user-centred design principles
  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
  • Industrious, curious and passionate to keep learning
  • Strong communication and listening skills
  • Flexibility and strong organisational skills in order to work across multiple projects concurrently
  • Experience of using Adobe creative suite: Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign, Keynote, Powerpoint and Mural/Miro
  • Experience in planning and conducting consumer/user research
  • Experience of working within a consultancy environment

Where you’ll be based: You’ll be based in our creative studio in central Bristol, but with the option to work from home for some of the week. The role involves some travel, both within the UK and abroad (US, Europe and Asia), so you need to be comfortable being away from home several times a year for periods of up to 2 weeks.

What we offer:

  • Annual salary £26-34k depending on experience
  • Full-time role (38 hours per week)
