As a Design Manager on our UK & EU Design & Construction team, you will play a pivotal role in delivering exceptional environments for our customers and innovating the physical products we provide. You will collaborate with other Design Managers across Europe and the US, as well as cross-functional teams including Real Estate, Construction, Operations, and Launch, to support our growth and the development of new locations.
We’re seeking a creative self-starter who thrives in ambiguity, proactively solves challenges, and makes meaningful contributions to design and product discussions across the organisation. This role can be based in London, Amsterdam, or Berlin.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead design projects in the UK and EU from concept through to construction and launch.
- Support facilities teams on capital expenditure (CapEx) projects, focusing on improvements to operational spaces.
- Collaborate with sales teams on bespoke member customisations.
- Oversee the specification of furniture, accessories, artwork, and greenery for assigned projects.
- Advocate for Industrious’ product standards and guidelines in all design decisions, ensuring alignment with the brand and vision when collaborating with landlords and external suppliers.
- Review base building design documentation, identify impacts on design, and ensure alignment with guidelines and programme requirements.
- Coordinate design scope with the Pre-Construction team and assist with pricing exercises.
- Prepare and present proposals to the internal Investment Committee, clearly communicating design strategies, benefits, and risks.
- Partner with internal teams (Construction, Pre-Construction, Real Estate, Facilities, Operations, etc.) and external consultants and suppliers to deliver projects.
- Identify opportunities to enhance processes and workflows, improving efficiency and effectiveness.
- Identify design ideas, trends, and new product specifications to evolve our design standards and innovate our physical workplace products.
- Contribute to the refinement and documentation of design guidelines and standards through feedback and review sessions.
- Foster a positive, collaborative team culture while shaping and executing the design vision and strategy.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture/Interior Design with experience in designing relevant office environments with hospitality focus.
- Minimum of five years’ experience, including at least two years specialising in commercial interior space planning.
- Proficient in Revit; familiarity with AutoCAD is advantageous.
- Strong knowledge of local building regulations and accessibility standards.
- Ability to develop design drawings and mark up construction documents (architectural and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) to ensure alignment with design intent and industry best practices.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate design concepts to non-design audiences.
- Proven ability to manage and prioritise multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
- Comfortable working in a virtual, distributed team environment.
- Willingness to travel within Europe for site visits and project launches.
