Goods In & Inventory Assistant Team Leader

Job Purpose: Basic salary is around 28K with the 30% shift premium added on top. To assist the Goods In & Inventory Team Leader to manage, lead and motivate the site Goods In team during the period of the shift, ensuring that production line ingredient requirements are met, in a safe, efficient and timely manner. To liaise with the Senior Leadership Team and External Contracts as and when required.

Job Context: Our large factories produce multi formats across a number of high speed modern lines, producing to high quality standards whilst maximising production outputs and minimising overhead costs. The Goods In & Inventory Assistant Team Leader is part of a team of Goods In Operators working on a shift basis, reporting to the Goods In & Inventory Manager. Looking after the day to day operations of the Raw Materials, and deputising certain duties in the absence of the Inventory Controllers and the Goods In Team Leader.

Principle Accountabilities:

  1. People Management:
    • Along with the Goods In Team Leader, lead, motivate and develop their team, to ensure planned output requirement and quality standards are met whilst ensuring all health and safety guidelines are followed.
    • Supporting the Goods In Team Leader to review team performance (1:1s, performance reviews) to identify areas for improvement and development.
    • Be able to coach your colleagues and manage them to achieve their potential.
    • Support with absence return to work interviews and holiday planning (inc updating holiday tracker and crewing sheets).
    • Support and cover staff shortages as and when required.
    • Ensure regular communication and briefings to provide the team with the relevant information to carry out their shift to maximum effect.
  2. Operational Performance:
    • Responsible for having all raw materials available for production in line with weekly manufacturing plans.
    • Manage the team against the SWP’s and Processes, ensuring that they are met or exceeded at all times.
    • Implementing and/or improving new procedures and processes involving CI dept and suggesting ways to improve storage and flow of raw materials always ensuring they are stored in both optimum safety & quality practices.
    • Manage Stock Transfers from other production plants for internal consumption.
    • Be the MHE trainer for the shift.
    • Manage any Stock/MHE incidences competently ensuring all parties are updated.
  3. Quality and Accuracy controls:
    • Management of ingredient raw materials – segregating locations to aid with better stock control (FIFO) and location of stock.
    • Ensuring all systems are updated with accurate stock information.
    • Carry out stock counts and blind location checks weekly.
    • Support inbound inventory queries, ensuring swift resolution on all exceptions.
    • Checking and ensuring materials are stored in the appropriate place and never overstocked.
    • Ensuring all site specific quality, housekeeping and hygiene standards are achieved or exceeded.
    • Liaise with the Inventory Team on quality problems relating to raw materials. Ensure faulty material is uplifted from site, costs are recovered and all stock held and classified correctly. Returns to suppliers to be actioned and reasoned weekly.
    • Accurately complete all required shift documentation for compliance against BRC, ISO and site specific quality standards.
    • Carry out site inspections and audits upon request.
  4. Working Relationships/Contacts:
    • Internal: All relevant site personnel, Group functions as required.
    • External: Contractors, Suppliers as required.
  5. Knowledge & Experience:
    • Proven track record in a warehouse capacity within an FMCG environment preferably with the relevant goods in operation and stock counting experience.
    • Able to demonstrate leadership qualities.
    • Ability to learn quickly, and to work on your own initiative.
    • Problem solving ability.
    • Computer literate.
    • Knowledge of Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, BRC, HACCP).
