We are seeking an experienced and motivated Nightshift Supervisor to oversee night operations within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for ensuring production targets are achieved safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.
The successful candidate will lead and support a team of production operatives, manage workflow in line with production plans, promote a strong health and safety culture, and ensure all operational and quality procedures are consistently followed. Reporting directly to the Factory Manager, this position offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced supervisor looking to develop their career within a growing manufacturing business.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervising and supporting production operatives throughout the night shift, ensuring workloads and resources are allocated effectively to meet production requirements.
- Conducting performance reviews, supporting employee development, managing attendance and absence, carrying out return-to-work interviews, approving holidays, and assisting with disciplinary procedures where necessary.
- Training, mentoring, and developing team members while promoting a positive, productive, and professional working environment.
- Communicating daily production plans and priorities to the team, monitoring progress against production schedules, and ensuring the efficient use of labour and equipment.
- Addressing production issues promptly to minimise downtime, supporting the movement of materials between production and warehouse areas, accurately recording production outputs and waste figures, and providing detailed shift handovers and performance updates to management.
- Leading by example in promoting a strong safety-first culture, ensuring all employees follow health, safety, and environmental procedures, supporting risk assessments and safe systems of work, and contributing to continuous safety improvements.
- Maintaining high housekeeping standards through a clean-as-you-go approach, ensuring visitors and contractors comply with site safety requirements, and identifying and reporting hazards, near misses, and safety concerns.
- Ensuring products are manufactured in accordance with quality standards and specifications while maintaining compliance with site procedures, work instructions, and operational standards.
- Completing and maintaining production and quality documentation accurately, supporting investigations into quality concerns, implementing corrective actions, and monitoring adherence to production processes and quality requirements.
- Identifying opportunities to improve productivity, efficiency, quality, and safety, participating in continuous improvement projects, supporting the implementation of new processes, assisting with root cause investigations and problem-solving activities, and contributing to achieving operational performance targets.
Skills and Experience Required
- Previous supervisory experience within a manufacturing or production environment and experience working within a fast-paced production setting.
- Strong leadership, people management, communication, and organisational skills are essential, along with good analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently, make effective decisions, demonstrate strong attention to detail, and maintain a high commitment to quality.
- Competent IT and PC skills are required, together with a flexible and proactive approach to work.
Desirable Qualifications and Training
- A Forklift Truck (FLT) Licence would be advantageous, although training can be provided for the right candidate.
- A First Aid qualification, IOSH Health & Safety training, HACCP awareness, food or manufacturing compliance training, and experience with continuous improvement methodologies would also be beneficial.
