Hybrid / Field Based | South East & Midlands Territory

Are you a hunter who enjoys opening doors, finding projects and turning opportunities into sales? We're recruiting for an established technical manufacturing business that is looking for a Business Development Manager to drive growth across its LAN Enterprise division.

This is a genuinely new-business-focused field sales role. You'll have an existing customer and distribution network to work from, but you'll also be expected to find new opportunities, build relationships and identify projects that others may have missed.

What will you be selling?

You'll be representing a range of technical LAN, connectivity and infrastructure products, working across distribution partners, electrical wholesalers, resellers, installers and directly with end-user organisations. Projects can range from around £2,000 to £500,000, so you'll be dealing with a mixture of smaller opportunities and longer-term project sales involving multiple stakeholders. The role will predominantly cover the South East and Midlands, with UK travel required. Ideally, you'll be based somewhere around Leicester, Luton, Bedford, Peterborough, Cambridge or the surrounding areas.

What will you be doing?

  • Identify and generate new business opportunities.
  • Research potential customers, projects and decision makers.
  • Build relationships with end users, distributors, wholesalers, installers and resellers.
  • Develop existing, new and lapsed customer relationships.
  • Get out on the road and meet customers face-to-face.
  • Pick up the phone and proactively create opportunities.
  • Identify projects early and work them through to close.
  • Manage a sales pipeline and keep accurate CRM records.
  • Work alongside distribution partners to maximise opportunities.
  • Attend exhibitions, networking events and customer meetings.
  • Manage your own diary, territory and sales activity.
  • Work closely with technical, marketing and product teams to develop opportunities.

Who are we looking for?

We're interested in people who genuinely enjoy business development and hunting for sales. You don't necessarily need to have sold structured cabling before. We're open to people who have sold other technical B2B products or solutions into similar markets. Your background could be in areas such as:

  • Electrical products
  • Fire & Security
  • Fire Detection
  • Engineering
  • Telecoms
  • Technical Manufacturing
  • Industrial Products
  • Networking
  • Electrical Wholesale
  • Building Services

What matters most is your ability to find opportunities, open doors and convert them. You'll probably describe yourself as someone who:

  • Doesn't wait for leads to land in their inbox.
  • Is comfortable picking up the phone and making things happen.
  • Enjoys getting out and meeting customers.
  • Can handle rejection without losing momentum.
  • Is persistent and willing to keep chasing an opportunity.
  • Understands sales activity, conversion rates and pipeline management.
  • Is commercially minded and target driven.
  • Can organise their own week without needing to be micromanaged.
  • Enjoys finding new ways into an account.
  • Has the curiosity to ask questions and uncover projects.
  • Gets satisfaction from turning a cold opportunity into a customer.

Why this role?

You're not walking into a completely cold territory. There is an established customer base, distribution network and existing relationships to build from. The opportunity is to take what's already there and grow it significantly through proactive new business development and project sales. You'll have plenty of autonomy over how you manage your territory and your week, with the freedom to decide where your time is best spent. If you're the type of salesperson who enjoys finding the next opportunity rather than waiting for it, this could be a very good fit.

£55,000 - £60,000 + £10,000-£15,000 OTE + Company Car (Depending on Experience & Sales Targets)

33 days' holiday | Holiday purchase scheme | Hybrid/field-based working | EV charging on site
